Umm, if you work and live towards London, then maybe you should by the Times-Tribune (a daily that covers EIGHT high schools) or the Sentinel-echo (a tri-weekly that covers both North and South) and get the sports stories a whole lot quicker than a weekly.

Good point! But I'd still have to buy the News Journal for the People Section. Looks like I'm going to be buying a lot of newspaper next week.

And, if you get the Times I heard that sports editor Les Dixon is pretty darn good. In Thursday's editions of the Times he has the Fear 'Les' 13TH Region Rankings.

I understand your point with the News Journals coverage area. I don't agree with it but I don't think anything will change because of my opinion. It would be nice to see an article on some of the smaller schools and their players. If you know a sports writer personally maybe you could mention the idea.

Let the Sentinal Echo cover South and North. When is the last time they did a story on Corbin or Whitley. The News Journal is what it is. As long as it sells ads Mr. Forcht has no concerns with the quality of the sports section. He is not concerned with the craft. His only concern is the bottom dollar. Trent knuskles is missed but I know that Jim McCallister likes kids and tries to cover those in his coverage area. 4 schools with both boys and girls is a lot to cover. That is generally 15 games a week.

Yeah Mitch Howard, he was a very good writer and seems like if something special happed at a school outside his coverage area (like a state tournment win) he would at least mention it. He also was a first class person. I will try to remember the correct name for the Times-Tribune.

Lets see 8 total teams at the Journal and a week or so to compile the stories vs 16 teams for the TIMES-TIRBUNE and a deadline of a few hours each night to compile the stories one would expect a more detailed sports section from the Journal. I know all these teams dont play every night but many times they are pretty close to it.

Hey look at it this way....If Jim McCalister is doing such a bad job, then they may be looking for a replacement. I am sure that Les would agree with this point, in that it may be tougher than it looks to run a sports section by yourself. You can only be one place at a time. Jim is limited in his resources and I am sure that anyone who would want to submit articles about their team I am sure that he would review it possibly put it in the paper and it would lighten his workload and he could cover more teams in person. I think they are called striinger and get paid about fifteen to twenty dollars a story.

 

It is awfully easy to see someone elses shortcoming but why not just try and do his job for a while and you may see that it tough. It takes time and dedication to get all that stuff in the paper.

 

Hey both local papers are both only 50 cents with a limited advertising base and you basicly get what you pay for, (no offense intended) only saying that their resources are limited and they do pretty well for what they have.

I wonder how Mr. McAllister came to his decision on whose name he recognized from the schools. Did the coaches produce the names or where they his personnel choices? I for one agree Teague should of been included.......he had been limited to his playing time in about two to three games because of an ankle injury. Is it possible he was just overlooked?

Apex that is an excellant observation. Jim could use some help. I am a big fan of the Teague kid and believe he should have been included.

I do not expect Mr. McAllister to provide weekly coverage of South Laurel sporting events but, when publishing an article on something as specific as the best players in the area, he should have considered the entire area.

Jacob is a player and should have been on there, the kid has been playing hurt...

I believe teague hurt an ankle and is just now gettin back to where he is comfortable on it.
