12 points in the second half for Somerset?  What happened? Did Mercer change defenses, tighten up, or did Somerset just go cold?

Somerset played 6 guys (One FR Guard off bench), so I think some fatigue played a role for them.  Mercer Co. played 9 guys, and got after it in the half court with physicality.  Grundy not playing impacted the scoring.  Mercer Co. is a good defensive team.  Preston is a big piece for them.  He is strong guard, and gets after it.

Is Grundy a football player? I knew his brother used to play, but never knew if he did or not.

Either way, I’d say Coach Young was happy being in a competitive game without several contributors. Young does a great job, and he’ll have his Jumpers in contention by years end.

Sprained ankle in Sat. scrimmage.  He doesn't play football.  Elite baseball player.

Mercer vs. Somerset

I just watched it on HUDL.  Mercer is a good team.  They've got good ball movement, took good shots against Somerset's zone, and played aggressive man to man.

Somerset has a way to go.  They had way too many turnovers and struggled to get decent shots against Mercer's man to man.  Their zone defense was really porous and Mercer was getting layups against it, something that should never happen in a good zone.  Lonesky played decently, I had him with 12, but when they went to a man to man late in the game he was pretty much lost.  I'd say the football players and Grundy will make a difference but they really need to figure out how to get better shots in their man offense.  It was obvious as to how much they depended on Whitaker and Godby for offense last year.  Based on what I saw in their scrimmage and at times in this game they've got some players who can shoot but they need to figure out how to get them some open looks.

I would at least let a team get some practices together before judging them so empathetically.  Of course, any team would feel the effects of losing two 1,000 Pt scorers.  Maybe they will be a good, average or bad team but they haven't even practiced together yet.  So, although your critique may be accurate all of the above can be improved.  With all that said, this game was super tight until the last 3 mins...

I'm looking forward to Madison Central @ Pulaski Co. tonight and DCA @ Woodford Co.  Two stiff tests for 12th region opponents.

I really wasn't trying to be that hard on them and I'm sorry if it came across as overly harsh.  I was just pointing out things they need to work on.  I used to coach so when I watch video it's with an eye on "what do we need to work on" or "what do we need to improve".  I'm sure Coach Young made the same assessment today when he watched the film......

Your point about practicing together is valid.  I'd say Bruner and Grundy will definitely help shore up the weaknesses I saw on defense.  I doubt if Bartley will take many minutes away from Lonesky based on what I saw from him last year.  Lonesky has the potential to be a solid contributor.
