Bowling Green (6-2) at Greenwood (5-3)

The Purples will again load the buses and travel about 5 miles down Scottsville Road to take on the Gators at the SWAMP!  It will be the 36th meeting between the schools on the grid iron with the Purples undefeated.  While there have been close games in this series; most notably 1996 (25-21), 2004 (31-24) and perhaps the 2021 playoffs (24-10); the majority have been all Purples.  And at this point, it seems as much a mental hurdle as a grid-iron hurdle.

Greenwood Information:

The Gators have had somewhat of an expected season defeating 4 teams you would expect them to win including Hoptown, Logan County, Warren Central and Ohio County and losing two games you’d expect them to lose to in OCath and South Warren.  But I am sure they’d like to have the Warren East game back as that one surprised me a little bit.  In the Franklin-Simpson game this past Friday night, they played a good game vs a good team and came out with an impressive 31-30 win.

Greenwood is led by JR QB Levi Wyatt who has 344 yards passing, 5 TDs vs 4 INTs through 7 games.  But the likely biggest offensive positive of the season has been SR RB Cayden Schwarzkopf show has 723 yards on 100 carries on the year with 4 TDs.  The Gators most explosive play is likely SR WR/LB Freeland Jackson who has 5 catches on the year for 111 yards and 1 TD; 31 rushes for 176 yards and 8 TDs.  All that while also leading the team in tackles with 47 (4 TFL).

Bowling Green Information:

The Purples have been less balanced this season than most.  The Purples have 1,815 passing yards vs 539 rushing yards on the year.  But go to your strengths right!  Bowling Greens best player is SR QB Deuce Bailey.  But football is a fickle sport and when you win you’re on top and when you lose you aren’t.  Such is the case for the Purples who come into this game on the heels of a humbling loss to cross town rival South Warren in a hard fought game, where the Purples honestly left a lot on the field and had a 4th quarter to forget.  But nothing to do about that now as I’m sure Greenwood could care less.

Game Information:

This game will be played at Greenwood High School on their new (very nice) turf field affectionally called The Swamp!  This game will be for second place in the district and a home playoff game, so it matters quite a lot.  Does Greenwood break the streak here or does BG get back in the win column?

Greenwood is the ultimate palate cleanser for the Purples to flush the sour taste from their mouth.

Bailey was sharp against the Gators last year. I think he and Barber set the tone early.
