Bullitt East opens 2024 district play by making the 8.5 mile drive up to Fern Creek High School.

Bullitt East has just dropped back to back regular season games for the first time since 2021 last week when the were upended by North Hardin by a score of 26-14.  They currently sit at 4-2. The Chargers offense is struggling as of late, especially with the run game.  NH also forced a whopping 7 turnovers.  The Chargers defense actually played well enough to win the game.

Fern Creek come into the contest with a record of 3-3.  They are led by QB Kaleb Passmore (awesome qb name) who has thrown for a little over 1000 yards on the season.  Defensively they are led by sack machine Travis Moten.

The Chargers are pretty banged up right now but that just means others need to step up.  They can win this game but the Offensive line must improve.  I think the Chargers defense will keep them in the game but they have to figure out a way to get the ball down the field.  Big district game for both.

I will not be at this game tonight.  If anyone else is and can update, please do.

The right to host a home playoff game is on the line.  I think this game is bigger for the BE program than Fern Creek.  I don’t recall the last time the Chargers have lost 3 in a row.  A loss here & it could literally be the Meade County game to wrap up the year, before playoffs, that determines if the Chargers finish 6-5 or 5-6.

Fern Creek, although not playing an extremely strong schedule, is leading the state in rushing defense, allowing 25 YPG.  That’s huge since the Chargers will need to establish some sort of running game to be successful.  I haven’t seen FC play this year, but it seems in the games where the teams were somewhat even in terms of talent, they didn’t find a way to win.

Can BE establish a run game?  Can FC finally get over the hump & finish out a game against a team that’s on par with them in regards to talent?  I’ll take Fern Creek in a close one but only because they’re at home.  FC did a nice job of holding the BE offense in check last year & I don’t think the BE offense is quite as strong this year.

BE goes 3 & out.  Punt.  FC takes over 1st and 10 at their 30.  9:49 left in 1st.

35 YD TD pass for FC.  XP is good.  7-0 FC with 5:18 left in 1st.

BE picks up a 1st down, but a penalty & a couple of TFLs lead to a punt.  FC takes over, 1st and 10 at the 50.  1:55 left in the 1st.

FC goes 3 and out.  Punt.  BE takes over at their 12.  7-0 FC with :14 left in the 1st.

BE picks up a 1st down, but then punts.  FC takes over 1st and 10 at the 50.

FC goes 3 and out.  Touchback.  BE takes over; 1st and 10 at their 20.  7-0 FC with 7:46 left in the 2nd.

BE goes for it on 4th & 2 at their 28 & doesn’t convert.  FC takes over; 1st and 10 at the BE 30.

FC picks up a 1st down.  Big play coming up now.  4th and 2 at the BE 12 for FC and it appears they’re going for it.

Pass incomplete.  BE takes over 1st and 10 at their 12.  2:23 left in the 2nd.

BE picks up a couple of 1st downs.  Timeout.  1st and 10 BE at their 44.  :55 left in the 2nd.  BE has 2 timeouts left.

BE drive stalls.  Halftime.  7-0 FC.
