Game time: Friday, August 30 at 8:30 PM (Per KHSAA Website)

Location: Haywood Stadium, Belfry High School

Belfry opens up with a 56-26 win against Breathitt County, who hung around against Belfry for a while in the first half before Belfry would pull away. George Rogers Clark opens up the season with a strong 38-6 win against Central Hardin, who last season reached the regional finals in 6A. Belfry looks to continue their momentum at home and I'm sure will be fired up against a solid 6A competitor.

GRC won 53-27 last season.

What are your thoughts on the matchup?

That score came completely out of left field. Belfry looked good against Breathitt the week before and GRC lost to Central Hardin by three scores. The Pirates were up 27-16 late in the 2Q before GRC turned the Pike County Bowl upside down. The Cardinals ran off 37 unanswered points to bury the Pirates on Pond Creek.

There will be no element of surprise this time. Based on the stat report from Week 1, GRC likes to bring the heat, defensively. It'll be interesting to see how Belfry's o-line handles the pressure.

I'm going with the bigger, deeper team here, but not in the blowout fashion last year's game snowballed into. I think Belfry aquits itself well in defeat.

This is a water line mark game for Belfry to see if they are starting the year in the contender or pretender category of 3A.

GRC is a solid middle of the road to top of the back of the pack 6A team.

When Belfry was cooking in their most dominant form they would beat teams like Henry Clay, Tates Creek, and Bryan Station with a level of comfort. I don't expect Belfry to be at that level, but it is fair to say that this is the type of team you need to be able to beat (even by a thin margin) if you want to be viewed as a team capable of competing for a 3A title.

Let's put it this way, if this was CAL, Central, or even LexCath playing GRC I think they would be the favorite.

This made my head hurt, ATL 😆

Everything else you said, spot on as usual.  It would be a good sign to see Belfry come out with intensity.  It has been a few years since they have really had that swagger.  A solid game here (even if they lose) would be really good for their mentality I think moving forward.

Me three, Watusi.

LOL

Think of 6A like restaurants that serve steak

Trinity is the highest end steakhouse.

Male and X are really nice steakhouses.

Let's call Longhorns your generic middle of the road...there are a LOT of Longhorns in Kentucky 6A football. Yes, it may be middle of the road compared to a fine establishment like Jeff Ruby's... but it is still a really good meal.

The low end is low though... Warren Central last year was more like ordering a steak from the local dive restaurant where they pulled that sucker out of vacuum sealed pack in a freezer. Straight up sirloin at a seafood or wing spot.

I am not sure 4-6 GRC is a Longhorns experience, but they sure are more palatable than the 8.00 Sirloin at Shaky's Wing & Things Restaurant LOL.

Let's call GRC a Bourbon Street Steak from Applebees. Inconsistent,  a little bit of mystery, but generally pretty filling.. maybe nothing you brag to your friends about but it gets the job done. HAHA
