True that. But I was talking about the Wing-T only. It's good to see such strong and varied opinions on the Wing-T. But they'll be talking about it in the past tense at WV. Anybody want to talk about this: When compared to other offenses I think it's reasonable to say kids aren't as crazy about the Wing-T. When you get behind, generally it's tough to rally. While you can develop passing concepts with it like the Delaware Wing-T, try gathering enough personnel at a small school and then try teaching that and then perfecting it and get back me. I think this general feeling about the Wing-T may be true to the point that when an offense turns away from it and goes in another direction players can get pumped up about the switch. If kids are pumped up about a new wrinkle in the program like a new offense it's going to be talked about among the players and the wannabe players and established younger athletes who may retry football or want to become players. That's a critical development at a small school because newfound excitement in the school halls and in the kids social circles can translate into higher participation. WV had about 40 some players last year but had about 50 two years ago. While WV's numbers are good for a small school team I'm sure the new coach would like to see the roster closer to 50. In some situations moving away from the Wing-T can be practical not only from a scheme standpoint but it can also be a catalyst for the program. I think that is what is going to happen at WV.

So I think it depends where you are at as a program. If you are a program that is down and looking to try to find a way to win more games with limited talent. Then it is a good offense to run. If you are a talented team, then I think it limits you some and prevents you from truly taking next step as a program. 

Also think about this. In addition to some players, I'm going to say some kids parents may not even be too crazy about the Wing-T in addition to possibly the student body and maybe some fans who may not be crazy about it. It's just not as exciting of an offense compared to many others though it can be in the right hands and the Wing-T was in the right hands with coach Barth, who did a fantastic job with it. But coach Barth is at Ludlow. There is a new coach in town at WV. A more exciting offense has a great chance to have a ripple effect in terms of greater revenue by virtue of more fans in the stands to see how the new offense is going to shake out. Conversely, if a football team is not exciting that can mean less revenue.

I’m wondering how many people in general would even recognize WV offense as wing-t? If someone reading this thread hasn’t watched them they are in the gun 100% of the time. They are typically 3 wide with some variety. So unless the general fan is told it’s wing-t most wouldn’t even have a clue. Injuries over the past two years haven’t helped things either. 
 

It’s interesting to hear people talk about wanting to bring in a new exciting offense. This isn’t like college where you can recruit both players and coaches. You are often limited more by your coaching staff than players. It’s the way the HS game has evolved that people want to see points.

Wing-T kills defenses in high school football, especially in the smaller school divisions.

And I think an important question for any program and especially a new head coach is..... how important is winning?   And I don't mean that to be disparaging in any way.  Not everyone is going to be like Beechwood or Trinity.   If winning is your top priority, then you run whatever system gives you the best chances of winning, even if that's an old school system that isn't sexy for most fans.  If you have other priorities, that's fine; just be honest with all stakeholders in your program and the reasons why.

Based off how their two scrimmages went, there definitely seems to be a big learning curve for them right now in learning a new system as they have struggled offensively overall against Campbell and a very good Ludlow squad. With that said I believe I read in the football previews this year that WV was in the bottom 10 last year in 2A in all offensive areas rushing, passing, and scoring. So the wing T offense wasn’t getting it done for them a year ago. They also missed the playoffs last year, and returned just 4 starters on offense and defense from the team that struggled last year. So definitely seems like if WV was going to make a switch to their system, this was the year to do it. Since it does seem like it would have been a rebuilding year either way for them after struggling last year and not returning many starters.
