Legendary Beechwood head football coach Mike Yeagle has died

Today's service for Coach Yeagle at the Beechwood football field was moving and memorable. All the coaches and former players that spoke did a great job.

Leader; communicator; motivator at the highest level; confidence builder; but above all else he deeply cared about others, not just his players but everyone he came in contact with. Coach Yeagle built a standard of excellence and a culture in the entire school.

The story that I felt exemplified Coach Yeagle the best was "44 Guts". That was a play that Yeagle drilled into his team. He would tell opponents that he was going to run 44 Guts all night and they couldn't stop it. The game was Beechwood versus ... who else ... Covington Catholic. Beechwood trailed 23-21, 1 minute to go, 4th and goal at the 1. Beechwood had a kicker that was a sure foot, no doubt he would kick that field goal for the lead. Coach Yeagle called time out and went on the field. He asked his players, what do YOU want to do - kick it or go for it. He got the answer he hoped for - go for it. He didn't even have to call the play. Every player in that huddle knew it was 44 Guts. They knew it would work because Coach Yeagle coached that belief, that confidence, that pride, brotherhood and unity into them. Tigers win. We Are Beechwood.

What an amazing man. Greatness. A blessing to all that he touched.

Truly, rest in peace Coach. As Dustin Menetrey stated today, "Well done, good and faithful servant."
