This is the first game of tomorrow's quarterfinals of the Girls State Tournament. The first game is between the Bowling Green Lady Purples (24-8) and the McCracken County Lady Mustangs (30-5). This should be a good game between two of the better teams in the western part of the state. These two teams have faced each other this season actually twice. The first meeting was back on Dec. at the Queen of the Commonweath at Bullitt East where McCracken won 46-30 and then again on Feb. 17 at Bowling Green where the Lady Purples won that one 53-50. This will be the rubber match and should be a good one.

McCracken County, led by MISS BASKETBALL FAVORITE (do you hear me yet, voters?) Claire Johnson, get the Lady Purples by 10 or so at Rupp.  Better top-end talent, more depth, and the best player in the game...great combination for the Lady Mustangs.  BG goes through spurts where they struggle to score, then they look unbeatable for about a 5 minute stretch...it is the former that will doom them in this game.  Look for them to have at least one very low scoring quarter and it ultimately is too big a hole to dig out of.

Getting ready to tip the winner goes on to the semis tomorrow morning vs. either Butler or Franklin Co.

McCracken leads 5-3 early just two minutes in.

McCracken leads 9-8 at the under 3 media timeout.

McCracken leads Bowling Green 11-8 end of the 1st quarter.

Not a good sign for Bowling Green they are down 14-8 early in the 2nd and Clarie Johnson has only 2 of those 14 for McCracken.

16-12 McCracken at the under 3 media timeout for the 2nd quarter.

McCracken Co. leads Bowling Green 20-12 at the half.

The 3rd quarter has started very slowly almost 3 minutes there has only been 2 points scored. McCracken still leads 20-14 just over 5 minutes left in the 3rd quarter.

At the 3rd quarter media timeout McCracken leads 25-22.

McCracken Co. leads Bowling Green 29-25 end of the 3rd quarter. McCracken needs Johnson to step up in the 4th quarter she has had a pretty quite game up to this point with only 10 points on 2 FG's.

Claire Johnson must have read my previous post between quarters. lol She has scored 6 early points to start the 4th quarter and put McCracken up 38-30 with 4:43 to play. It is beginning to get to the critical time for the Lady Purples.

Bowling Green hanging around it is 41-35 McCracken with 2:49 to play.
