I thought Coach P. was going to get a T when that call was made, probably the maddest that I have seen him on the floor. Corbin seemed to get a little rattled at that time and must learn to play through those type of things.

 

Corbin's defense and team play was much better tonight.

 

 

From all sources within the region that I have spoken with, the " Flop" is getting old with alot of coaches and fans within the area. It seems folks think that every player in the region should get that call and not just a select few. I overheard one radio person suggesting that their Coach hire a drama teacher to school his team on the art of drawing that foul call. If this happens look for the towel boys and managers to get quite a workout in the upcoming weeks. I can not figure out how you get murdered on a drive to the basket and then get the "Flop" on a 22 foot shot. I figure that is a good reason as to why I am not a referee.

True. I think most are excited in the fact that it was a close game on the Cards homefloor, it gives alot of region teams a better feeling about competing with the Cards. Not sure if anyone other than Barbourville last year in the region has took the Cards to the wire like they were tonight. I repeat South won the game and showed class doing so. I will also repeat on a given night, if the stars line up just right that someone in the 13th can beat the Cards. Corbin has a ton of work to do and lots of room to improve. I do not think the Hounds were satisfied with the close defeat.

The Redhound defense was what had them outplaying the Cards for the big part of the game. They were forcing them into taking bad shots left and right. Once their legs got tired, it allowed for some easy back door baskets late in the game. Of course, fouls, flops, turnovers, ect play roles but doesn't win or lose games. The deciding factor in this game was youth and inexperience.

 

On a side note, Aaron Manns is a flat out bear in the post and I love his intensity. That play where he got 3 or 4 offensive rebounds and finally scored was 100% will. Out of all the players out there on the floor tonight, he (a freshman) was the toughest and most fearless hombre playin. I'm proud of his effort and wouldn't mind seeing more minutes for the big guy.

Corbin played very well in the first half, and was smokin' from the field before the break, hitting 55 percent to SL's 33 (1-12 3FGs). That, coupled with scoreless first halves for Hammonds (less than 3:00 played because of foul trouble) and Proffitt led to Corbin's 6-pt HT lead. However, they squandered a couple of big chances in the final minute and change of the first half, and should've gone into the locker room with a 10-12 point lead, given how poorly the Cardinals played.

 

The second half was a total flip-flop — South hit 65 percent (4-6 3FGs) to Corbin's 33 after the break. Overall, it was SL 48% C 41.5%.

 

Hammonds scored the first nine points of the half for SL, and things were knotted up at 29-all. Then, with about two and change to go in the third quarter, Proffitt nailed a three, and after Manns got a stickback, Hammonds hit the four-point play to make it 38-37 to put the Cardinals up for the first time since it was 10-9. They never trailed again.

 

South got surprisingly solid efforts from role players Casey Hamm (9pts), Jordan Bortnem (10pts, 7 in the 4thQ) and Matt St. John (4pts, 10rbs, 1block). Hammonds finished with 20 on 7-of-8 shooting.

 

Corbin got 15/9 from Crawford, and 18/5 from Josh Smith. Madison Johnson couldn't miss in the first half (8pts, 3-for-3 FGs), but tailed off badly after the break to finish with 13 on 5-of-13 FGs.

 

Corbin outrebounded the Cardinals 30-27, but committed 15 turnovers to SL's 11.

I wonder what Hammonds shooting pct. is in the games he has played against Corbin the last couple of years? I'm guessing 70% or so.
