  • To me this sounds like the classic "copy and paste" situation. Off-season of They will win 7-9 games. Have an explosive offense and need to fix the defense. Regular season win 3-5 games. Off

@MaddenCurse44, what do you say? Without me really digging in and just using my old memory I am thinking 5-5 again. Wins: Mercer, Conner, Dunbar, Campbell County, Ashland Campbell Count

Not sure. I've heard reasons but they have come from kids, so they can't be trusted. Lol

Probably  a better chance to get recruited by college football teams.

Looks like he visited Bowling Green last weekend.

First week away from SK and has already visited more D1 schools than in his 3 season with SK. He's a baller. Wish him nothing but success!

Anderson has a nice team.

I hate seeing Turner leave he was fun to watch but SK has depth at RB.

Landon Brown will probably start at RB. They also have Riley Gilbert, Charles Oglesby, Jack Giordano and Torin Turner.

The Pioneers played their spring game today. It should be a good season in Independence this year!

Let's take a look at the basic raw defensive numbers for coach Jeff Marksberry's last three years at Simon Kenton and Roy Lucas Jr.'s first three years back at the helm at SK, without any editorializing. Just the numbers:

ABBREVIATIONS:
PPG = Points allowed per game
RY/G = Rushing yards allowed per game
PY/G = Passing yards allowed per game
YPG = Total yards allowed per game
AVG = Average
W-L = Wins-Losses

LUCAS FIRST 3 YEARS ON DEFENSE

YEAR   PPG   RY/G    PY/G    YPG    W-L
2023   32.8   156.2   206.4   362.6   5-5
2022   26.4   124.4   134.5   258.9    8-4
2021   42.4   244.9   241.3   486.2    2-9
--------------------------------------------
AVG    33.8    175.1    194.0   369.1  (15-18)

MARKSBERRY LAST 3 YEARS ON DEFENSE

YR       PPG    RY/G    PY/G   YPG      W-L
2020   32.9   200.8   196.0   396.8    3-7
2019    26.0   145.0   175.0    320.0    8-5
2018    20.6   140.2   118.7    258.9    10-3
---------------------------------------------
AVG     26.5   162.0    163.2   325.2  (23-15)

Anything inside these numbers or do they speak for themselves?

They haven't had a good defense since Jeese Herbst went to Dayton.
