Don't look now, but the Patriots are trending up.  Somerset was without Ben Godby for their last two games.  He should be back this week for their post-Christmas tournament.

Why was Godby out?  He’s definitely a piece Somerset doesn’t need out for long.

I think the top 6 is the top 6, but I’m not sure how Pulaski is at #2 with a loss this past week to a not very good Montgomery County team. That’s the same Montgomery team that lost to Lincoln by 20 a few days later. Pulaski did beat Wayne by double figures a few weeks ago but, outside of that, I just don’t see a reason to put them that high. At least until they get Fraley back.

Right now, I think Somerset and Wayne are a little above the rest of the field. Then I’d put Mercer, DCA & Rock, then Pulaski. And I say that knowing that Mercer and Rock didn’t fare well the week before Christmas. There’s just not much daylight between any of these teams. Once Fraley gets back for Pulaski, I think any of those 6 could win the 12th this year.

Teams 7-12 are a level above those 13 and lower, but I don’t think any have a legitimate shot to make a run in the postseason. Not to say they couldn’t pull off an upset, but I don’t think they could win back to back games in the regional tournament.

Why, because Christmas tournament games mean nothing and Pulaski Co is better than the other teams listed after them, I guess.

Danville Christian is 2nd in the state in team defense (giving up only 42 PPG).

Do you think that’s from their style of play- or teams taking the air out of the ball?

I still feel they are a top team to beat in region but the inexperience brings questions.

I think it’s probably a combination of both.  They’re my favorite, and that probably won’t change considering they get another 6”11 kid @ some point.

DC is a good team but not great. They appear to be about where they were this time last year. Other teams in the district and region seemed to catch up and pass them as the season progressed. They have to get out of a tough district for them. They have not been able to do that so far. Teams seem to figure them out the second time around and in tourney play. As far as another 6'11 player. I don't think that helps that much, since you can only play one at a time. Don't know where the districts and region tourneys are being held this year. That could also make a difference.

Maybe.  We don't know how good this other one is yet (I've heard much more physical).  I'm sure some of the other teams would like a 6"11 player who could impact the game on both ends of the floor.

Interesting angle here - DCA and Lincoln are better the slower a game is. I would contend that Boyle and Danville are better the faster and more chaotic the game is. I think there is a good chance DCA is the 1 playing the 4 Danville and Boyle and Lincoln are playing each other in the 2/3 game. I know we still have a lot of basketball to play to get there, but that feels like how it will go. Boyle and Danville also both have a ton of room until they hit their performance ceiling, Lincoln a good amount as well, but I think DCA is limited in how much better they can get.

I will give credit for playing a difficult schedule.  They’ve already played Woodford Co and Evangel Christian and playing in the AIT.  They’re certainly trying to play a schedule to prepare them for a deep run.

Christmas week in general is a time that you cannot assume much.  Kids out of school, holidays, missing players, preparation less etc

Just like Somerset missing Godby- I’m guessing he was out because of the holidays.
