Boyd Co 46 Harrison Co 44

Featured Replies

Final.

Boyd Co ends their 4 game losing streak with a nice road win.

Boyd improves to 9-7

Harrison Co falls to 7-13

January 26th, Ashland/Boyd Co part 3, should be fun.

Harrison blows a 12 point lead in the second half. Give Boyd credit they battled, but this win was a gift.

Where is the fan support? They couldn't have filled the City Hall Gym tonight!

Never saw a team full court press and half court trap the entire game, and then run 2 or 3 minutes off the clock between shots on offense. Almost a modern day stall offense. Huge contrast in styles between offense and defense. Does Harrison play this way all the time or something they just tried this one game. Got to give them credit though they got a great look every trip either a layup or a 5 footer or they would not shoot.

Nobody wants to watch teams pass the ball around for two or three minutes then shoot.....

Guess the old saying is true a pressing team does not like to be pressed. Harrison had all kinds of trouble with the press Boyd finally went to in the 4th qtr. Thought they should have went to it a little sooner to force some tempo.

I don't guess playing at 4:00 in afternoon and playing during the UK game has anything to do with it.

Well, I wouldn't think so, there weren't many more Harrison County fans for the Friday night home game against Madison Central. Boyd County played at Franklin on Friday, so many of their fans did not make the weekend trip. Crowd support has dropped over the years, but this year at Harrison County it seems as if it is at an all time low. Worse than the small crowd is the fact that the fans that are there are not enthusiastic and don't show much school spirit. However, when you don't shoot well and you get out rebounded the way Harrison did on Saturday, you're not going to win very many games nor get very many fans interested in showing support. Hopefully they can get the ship righted before tournament time, because they had a legitimate shot ay winning the 38th District this year.

It must be the UK game, because 4:00 games never hurt the baseball team's fan attendance. I guess some of the fans may have left early for the girl's game too.

Topper and Thorobred have to be former members of the "baseball mafia" at H.C.

There is no baseball mafia at H.C. But seriously Thorobred, I don't know what has happened to the fan support at HCHS. The football crowds were down this year as well. We need to find some school spirit on the Hilltop and get that gymnasium rocking again.

I bet the fans would come back if the next Jerry Fogle/Rob Ogden/Steven Moses/etc. would show up to play. It seems like the talent at Harrison has been down for a while. What gives?

Harrison County is a typical rural school that has its talent run in cycles. 60s and 70s were strong, 80s was not strong at all, 90s was excellent and the 2000s have been "competitive", but not upper echelon. I don't know that anything is "wrong", just don't have the marquee players that we have had in the past. One thing Harrison County does that some other rural schools do not do, is undertake a strong schedule, regardless of what they might have talent-wise. A similar school to Harrison County in the 10th Region is Montgomery Co. Bart Rison is a well-respected coach, and rightfully so. He routinely has 20+ win seasons, and probably will have again this year, but the schedule the Indians play is not in the same class with Harrison Co. What would MC's record be, if they played the same schedule as HC? Not picking on MC at all, just using them as a comparison.

Pendleton Co. is another example of a rural school whose talent pool runs in cycles. They were exceptionally strong two or three straight years and could, and did, compete on a state-wide level. That pool has dried up somewhat and they will be pretty ordinary for a while now.
