Russellville 38 Ballard Memorial 6

Recommended Posts

Not that the score is surprising, but I have attached some pictures of what has become a pretty hot topic around far West Kentucky the last several hours that happened in the game.

The debate is should the Russellville player charged with the facemask infraction in the pics be ejected from the game?

Lots of highly emotional opinions from a lot of Ballard faithful. Apparently this game had several instances and the teams weren't allowed to have the hand shake line at the end for obvious reasons.

If this was this kids only malicious play of the game then in no way should he be ejected. Football happens FAST. Sometimes you just reach for whatever you can grab and sometimes by accident that is a face mask. You can’t expect a kid in a bang bang play to let go of the face mask. It is natural instinct to hold on and bring the ball carrier down by any means necessary. And if you’re going to get called for he face mask penalty anyway you might as well make the tackle while you’re at it. With that being said, this is the nastiest looking face mask I have ever seen but if it wasn’t intentional from the jump then you can’t just throw a kid out for accidentally grabbing the wrong part of a players uniform. I would argue that horse collar tackles are far more intentional than accidentally grabbing a face mask. But I was also not at this game and don’t have any context except for this one play.

Seems like a lot of hate between two teams that really shouldn’t hate each other. They are not geographically close I don’t think they have a long history and even if they do I’m sure it’s been overwhelmingly in Russellville’s favor.
