The loser of Assumption vs. Notre Dame will quite possibly finish "fifth" in this tourney. ?

So was Highlands not invited this year?

I don't know if HHS wasn't invited or HHS said they didn't want to play.....

With all that being said, Highlands is being requested to potentially fill Dunbar's spot after they play on Tuesday night vs Bethlehem.  I guess Dunbar has other obligations on Thu & Sat, so Lex Cath has reached out to Highlands to see if they want to play the other 2 games that Dunbar "would have" played....We will see if Highlands schedule allows them to squeeze in the Thu/Sat commitments left open due to Dunbar not able to.

Monday night recap:

@Runcible Owl gave us the individual game updates from last night, THANK YOU for those!

Sacred Heat edged out Etown for a 1-0 win in the 1st game at 6pm

Lex Cath beat Dixie 3-0 in the nightcap.

Therefore the schedule for Weds is the following:

Etown vs Dixie @ 6pm, Dixie looking for that Top 10'ish signature win....Well you will get one if you can pull a win against Etown....

Sacred Heart vs Lex Cath @ 8pm, this will be a rematch from the 1st game of the season back on Aug 7th where they played 80 minutes with NO ONE scoring.....Let's see what happens with another 80 minutes, this time if it ends in a tie we will go to PKs to get ourselves a winner!

Would Highlands be able to reschedule their Saturday home match vs. West Jessamine? It would be great to keep another quality opponent.

So Saturday's West Jess game @ Highlands has been moved to 1pm on Saturday which will be the final game in a tripleheader showdown at Tower Park....Ballard is coming to play the HHS boys team in a Fresh/Varsity doubleheader at 10am & 11:30, then as I stated West Jess v HHS will be played at 1pm after the boys Varsity match.

Sooooooo back to the LKCC scenario, "if" HHS wants to play on Sat at Lex Cath it's going to have to be the 7pm kickoff scenario....I realize that's normally meant to be the "Championship" time slot, but if Lex Cath wants HHS to make the trip and Dunbar/HHS games on Tue/Thu don't put them in the Championship time slot they would have to move the Championship game to 5pm and make 7pm just one of the other 3 consolation games.... Clear as mud, right???

Are brackets for tournaments like this created through a blind draw or does the host team create it?

If so, it’s remarkable that NDA has drawn Sacred Heart, Assumption and Assumption for first round matchups the last three years ?

Actually my mistake they opened up with Manual last year.

Tuesday night recap

Bethlehem holds on their halftime lead of 2-1 to take down Dunbar

Assumption blanks NDA in a hard fought battle sneaking in 1 goal which was all that was needed.

As hinted Dunbar is not able to play on Thursday night so the phone call was made to Highlands to step in to replace Dunbar.  Who would have guessed that meant they would play their 9th Region foe?

Therefore the schedule for Thursday looks to be the following:

6pm:  Highlands vs NDA:  I thought I was going to have to wait like a boy on Xmas eve until Sep 25th for this epic battle....Luckily Xmas comes early and we get to witness this on Thursday night.

8pm:  Bethlehem vs Assumption:  I am really intrigued to see how this match goes.  Is Bethlehem for real?  They have 2 respectable blemishes on their record losing to Lex Cath 2-1 early in the season and also to Etown 2-0 on Aug 23rd BUT then they have wins against South Oldham, Central Hardin and Frederick Douglas.  Fun times in the L-E-X!!!

Wednesday night recap

Etown and Dixie had a titanic struggle for 80 minutes with both teams playing like the 85 Bears defense not letting anything by to get close for a shot.  Therefore, we had to go into the dreaded PK scenario to come away with a winner.  This is when ETown edges out Dixie for the Win.

Lex Cath takes down my #1 Sacred Heart team, with a 1st half goal by Zara McCarthy.  That was all that was needed in this contest with it ending 1-0, Lex Cath as the winner!

DING, DING, DING!  Let's get ready to RUUUUUUUUMBLE!!!!

Now comes the main event for FRANK!!!!  This is what I wait for every year, HHS v NDA.....its like UK v Duke, HHS v Cov Cath, Bengals v Steelers.....  You dislike them but you respect the heck out of them.  Which makes winning so much more fun and losing so disappointing..... I LOVE this rivalry!  The crazy thing is this might be the first of "potentially" 3 meetings that could occur this season, with the normal reg season game on Sep 25th at Tower and then potentially a third meeting in the Regional Tournament, so buckle up!!!......

6:00:  Highlands v NDA, I am sure NDA would love to get some revenge from last years epic 9th Region Final when the Birds were victorious in PKs.  NDA owns a 5-4-1 record against the Birds in their last 10 meetings.

8:00: Bethlehem v Assumption, this should be a really good battle.  The winner of this game will be facing Lex Cath on Saturday in the Championship match.  The loser gets Sacred Heart in another great battle.

Let the fun begin....I can't wait!!!!

Saturday Showcase Showdowns!!!!

Dixie and Highlands/Dunbar are all taking the pass on making trips to Lex Cath to participate in the Challenge Cup on Saturday.  Highlands already had a commitment to play at Tower Park vs West Jessamine and just couldn't make a return trip to Lexington work.  Therefore we have 3 EPIC Top 10 Battles in store for Saturday.

1pm:  #6 Elizabethtown vs #7 Notre Dame:  This is an interesting battle you have a familiar coach Rob Zoeller at Etown facing one of his NKY nemesis when he was at Simon Kenton.  This is crazily the first time these 2 teams have met since 2014!!!!  I am glad this tournament has allowed this meeting to happen on the pitch.

3pm:  #2 Sacred Heart vs #5 Bethlehem:  Another tough game ahead for Bethlehem.  I really just want to see them be able to score!  They have faced Sacred Heart 6 times since 2015 and have been outscored 26-0 in those 6 meetings!

5pm:  #1 Lexington Catholic vs #4 Assumption:  This will be a battle!  Can Lex Cath defend their own turf and pull out the Trophy and win this thing.  This is going to be a great Grand Finale of a nice Challenge Cup week!

Good luck to all these outstanding Student Athletes tomorrow.  Look forward to seeing the results!
