Belfry (2-1) plays hosts to Southwestern (0-2) on Friday, which will be only the 4th matchup in the last decade for these two teams.

The Pirates (#6 in 3A) have only faltered in a 30 point loss to what appears to be a very solid George Rogers Clark team. On the flip side, the Warriors (#8 in 5A) have gotten off to a less-than-desirable start with losses to Ballard and South Warren, respectfully.

Both teams will likely look to keep the ball on the ground as both Coach Haywood and Coach Foley prefer to try to break an opponent's spirit by running it down their throat.

Regardless of which team wins, it will probably be viewed as a 'statement' win as the season hurdles to district play. Who wins this slugfest, and why?

I don't know what to make of this Belfry team yet.

Their line played very good in the First Half against Johnson Central. QB Chase Varney looks tremendous and the passing threat for Belfry is real. Woolum and Caudill have made plays. That GRC game also was wild because Belfry actually had a two TD lead before a hook and ladder at the very end of the Half.

What I can say is Belfry has definitely struggled in the 2nd Half as their depth and amount of two ways players has came on.

Southwestern is 0-2, but those are two excellent teams they lost to that they played very tough. They also had no issue moving the ball on those teams which does not bode well for a Belfry defense that still struggles against a balanced offense that can run the ball.

I will take the Warriors by 14.

I think SW is a little better than 0-2 and like the previous poster said Belfry doesn’t have a lot of depth so I think I’m going with SW by a relatively close margin like 7 points.

Does anyone know a reliable stream for this one?

I would think SW is a favorite in this one.  Belfry kids are playing extremely hard and looking good in spurts. They haven’t put together a complete game yet but coming along.  Playing without a major piece of the puzzle tonight won’t help.  I’ll be interested in how the defense plays against another power football team. The change up on the DL was impressive last week.

SW gets the ball first, drive gets extended on a roughing committed by Belfry. SW ends up scoring on a 3rd and goal. The drive was over 8 minutes long. PAT good.

7-0 Warriors

At this rate this game will be over quickly. Both teams are going to look to control the football.

Belfry gets the ball after halftime. They have an over 7-minute drive that stalls out in the SW redzone.

SW ball on their own 11.

Belfry without QB Chase Varney tonight by the way, will probably be out a few weeks with a knee injury.
