FRANKFORT HIGH SCHOOL HIRES NEW FOOTBALL COACH

April 12, 2023

The Frankfort Independent Schools would like to announce the hiring of a new head football coach at Frankfort High School. Coach Stephen "Yogi' Davis comes to Frankfort High School from his most recent coaching stint at Pikeville High School in Pikeville, Kentucky.

Prior to joining the Frankfort High family, Coach Davis helped lead the Pikeville Panthers to four state championship appearances with three state championship wins in 2019, 2021, and 2023. During his tenure at Pikeville High School as the defensive line coach and special teams coordinator, Pikeville's defense was ranked in the top 5 for Class A football every year - most recently, being ranked #1 to finish the 2022 season.

Coach Davis is thrilled to join Frankfort High School as the head football coach of the mighty Panthers. With almost a decade of experience, he brings a wealth of knowledge to the team. Coach Davis and his family are excited to become a part of the Frankfort High traditions.

Coach Davis holds a Bachelor of Science in Recreational Management from Catawba College in Salisbury, NC, and a Master of Arts in Special Education from the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, KY. Outside of teaching and football, Coach Davis enjoys fishing and spending time with his wife, Lucy, and daughter, Lola.

Frankfort Independent Athletic Director, Amy Dungan says of the hire - "We are very excited to welcome Coach Davis to the Panther Family! He brings positive energy and a champion mindset to our athletic program. Coming from one of the most elite football programs in the state, he holds a level of experience and accountability that will push our student athletes to their greatest potential. Coach Davis embraces our vision for the football program, and will continue to elevate, building upon the strong foundation laid by legacies at Sower Field. The future is NOW!"

On Friday, April 14, Coach Davis will meet with his team, followed by a meet and greet at 6 p.m. at Sower Field. Please join the Frankfort Independent Schools in welcoming Coach Davis to the Panther family!

Coach Davis has been on staff with Pikeville during each of their last three State Championship teams as Defensive Line Coach and Special Teams Coordinator. It's great having someone who's seen what it takes to win at the 1A level leading the way. 

As I said in the Open Job thread, I am optimistic about the direction of the program.

I am rooting for a return to high level success for Frankfort. I have seen some excellent teams and great players at Frankfort with a packed stadium rooting the Panthers on. I hope Coach Davis can bring that back. I have confidence the right coach can do that.

Because of the sheer smallness of so many 1A schools it is very difficult for there to be many championship level teams. However, Frankfort is one of the schools that has potential to be that; in fact they've been at that level several times over their history. Here's hoping this hire puts another potential champion into Class 1A.
