Thoughts on 7 on 7 coming back in June? Also 7 on 7 at Colleges in June again?

Didn’t Charles Johnson end up helping coach at Highlands last year? If so, is he still coaching there?

To my knowledge he will still be coaching at Highlands.

Fun? Can be, sure.

Does it allow guys to keep skills sharp? Sure, but that can be done in various ways.

Do 7on7 tournaments help a kid get recruited? Absolutely not. College coaches do not watch 7on7 tape. I have never personally heard of someone getting “offered” from anything affiliated with 7on7.

In 2000, Scott County scored on EVERY drive of the UK passing tourney, defeating Male in the finals. We went 5-6 and Male went 14-1. In 2008, there was a brawl between SC and another team at a tournament, SC has not attended a tournament since.

7on7 is meaningless, 7on7 is not very close at all to 11v11,  the select stuff is a money racket and select tournaments aren’t held at colleges or attended by college coaches, if you impress at a 7on7 at a college campus, best case get a camp invite so they can test your true speed.

Waste of time. One man’s opinion!

4. No recruiting comments or allegations of KHSAA rules violations by any school, coach, player or booster are allowed. No comments about where any player lives, has lived, or where they are from in a recruiting context. This is not the place to report KHSAA violations. Feel free to contact Kentucky High School Athletic Association | KHSAA – Student-athletes of Today, Leaders of Tomorrow to report such violations, but do not discuss violations here.

My grandson is playing for P2P 7 on 7 out of Louisville. Former UK player Carlos Collins runs the organization. They have two teams, one from Lexington and one from Louisville. The Lexington team is a mix of players from area high schools but Frederick Douglass has the most students playing. It’s coached by Chad Pennington and is very well run. I wasn’t real big on 7 v 7 but this has been a great experience so far and has been an excellent off season workout for my grandson (he’s a receiver.) The tourney this past weekend was played at Paycor Stadium (Bengals home field) and consisted of teams from Lex, Lou, Cincy, Indy, Detroit, etc areas. The skill level at these camps are very high. Some of the teams do however have very poor discipline and allow their players, and coaches, to play dirty and constantly talk trash. I’d like to see more oversight from the ones hosting these tourneys to reign in some of the behavior. 7 on 7 has a bad reputation and I can see where it comes from. But even with those issues, I’d definitely recommend it! My GS has played the last 3 years at EKU’s 7 on 7 tourney which consists KY high schools and in my opinion, the overall competition from top to bottom is much higher at these “elite” tournaments than there. If you show up to these elite 7 on 7 tourneys and don’t bring your A game, you’ll get embarrassed in a hurry lol.
