2023 Greenup County Musketeers

Featured Replies

The Musketeers are coming off one the best seasons in school history, that saw Greenup County end the season in the Regional Championship game following a 8-5 record.   The Musketeers defeated Lawrence County, both in the regular season and in the second round of the playoffs, which is likely the only time they ever beaten the Dawgs twice in one season.

2022 was not a one-and-done season for Greenup County.  QB Tyson Sammons returns for his junior season after throwing for 1,400 yards and 9 touchdowns as a sophomore.  Sammons was also the leading rusher in 2022 with 1,700 yards and another 9 touchdowns.  Sammons also accounted for 50 tackles for the Musketeers a year ago.  Sammons will mature and likely be even more of a threat in 2023, if that is possible.  Wouldn't be surprised to see him kicking, punting, and selling popcorn at halftime in 2023.

Ike Henderson, who added another 900 yards rushing for the Musketeers will return for his senior season and is a hard, downhill runner who defenses will have to account for and will be a potent weapon.

The receiving corp will be decimated by graduation.  We have to go down to the number six receiver from 2022 to find someone returning.  That player is Drew Boggs.  Boggs may move way up the list of top receivers in 2023.  Expect Henderson to get more involved in the passing game as well.

A lot of the defensive production and OL/DL are going to require some rebuilding for 2023.

Greenup County has over 50 junior high players showing up for weightlifting.  That is about double the norm.  I would say people are excited about the football program after the 2022 performance and the expectations for 2023.

Is Gage Gullett related to Don Gullett?... great pitcher for the Cincinnati Reds!

Have worked with Tyson Sammons. He is an excellent QB and a warrior on the defensive side of the ball as well. Coach Moore worked like a mad man to build that program and Coach Jones will be the perfect guy to continue the process. I sure do appreciate the Greenup administration for rewarding a strong assistant coach that has paid his dues and earned this opportunity. Good luck to the Musketeers!
