The Greenup County head coaching job has officially been listed with the KHSAA. Head Coach Zack Moore, winner of the 2022 KFCA 3A Coach Of The Year award, was hired as assistant principal at Greenup County High School this past summer. District policy prohibits school administrators from coaching, but Moore was given a one-year exception by the school district since the administrative job was not listed until June of this year.

Coach Moore was promoted to head coach at Greenup County in February 2020 following the departure of Coach Scott Grizzle. Moore, a Carter, TN native, played college football at Morehead State prior to his coaching career. He was an assistant coach at Kentucky Christian University in 2007 and 2008 before taking over as head coach at KCU for the 2009 and 2010 seasons. Then he took over at East Carter High School as head coach from 2011 to 2014 before re-joining the college coaching ranks at Morehead State as an assistant coach from 2015 through 2017. Then he joined the coaching staff at Greenup County before taking over from Coach Grizzle in 2020.

This past season, Greenup County finished their season with an 8-5 record, ending their season with a third round playoff loss to 3A semifinalist Mason County. 2022 was the program's first 8-win season since 1998, and their first trip to the third round of the playoffs since 2007.

I sure hope Travis Jones is the next guy. Excellent young football coach and has paid his dues on the staff at Greenup. He was a big reason for their success this past fall.

Zack Moore did an excellent job of elevating the program, and more importantly, he did a great job of putting Coach Jones together a coaching staff prior to leaving the Head Coach position.

Travis Jones has been named the Greenup County High School Head Football Coach. He will take the reins from Zack Moore, who left the head coach position to continue his administrative career as vice principal at GCHS. Last season, the Musketeers advanced to the third round of postseason play for the first time in 15 years. Coach Jones was named the 2022 EKC Assistant Coach of the Year.  

A Geometry teacher at Greenup County High School, Coach Jones has been part of the Musketeer football program for six years. He has spent the past three years as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Prior to that he was the passing game coordinator, wide receivers coach and cornerbacks coach. Coach Jones has also served as the Head Boys and Girls Track Coach for the past 2 seasons.

Coach Jones is married to Mika Jones and has two daughters, Kynslee and Kilynn Jones.
