Musketeers Try To Play Spoiler As Royals Close In On Perfection

Records: Mason County (9-0) | Greenup County (6-3)

BGP Ranking: Mason County (#8 in 3A)

Series History: Mason County leads 10-5 all-time

Table Setter: Football is back at the forefront of the athletic school year in basketball rich Maysville. For the first time since 2013, when our own @ChiefSmoke was roaming the sideline, the Royals are on the cusp of an unbeaten regular season. The last hurdle remaining is Greenup County. Let's be frank, most years that's not a hurdle that would trip a good team up. But the Musketeers have put together a great season of their own, earning a home playoff game with a relatively green roster. Sophomore quarterback Tyson Sammons likes to keep it on the ground, with over 1,300 rushing yards, which may be a good thing because Mason County's Terrell Henry has a knack for picking off opposing quarterback's aerial offerings. He's tied for first in 3A in interceptions and doubles as one of the class's top big play receivers, averaging 27 yards per catch.

Coach Joe Wynn has done a terrific job getting things rolling early in his tenure with the Royals, while Zack Moore is looking to go out with a bang in his final season with the Musketeers.

Going undefeated is special, made even more so when you can seal the deal in front of the home crowd. Expect Maysville to turn out in full force to help their Royals bring home win #10.

Greenup County has played a much tougher schedule. However, they have two common opponents: both beat Fleming County while Greenup County lost to Boyd County and Mason County beat Boyd by one point. This looks to be a really close game. I'll give Mason the advantage on the home field.
