Question about district seeding...

Featured Replies

I don't know if this has been asked, but what happens if:

You are in a 4-team district; therefore, you'll have 6 games. (2 against remaining 3). Then, Team A and Team B both go 4-2 in the six games, Team A winning both contests between the two, but losing once to Team C and once to Team D, but Team A plays district team Team C in a tourney and beats them, making their district record 5-2. Would they get the automatic top seed for having the most wins?

Team A: 5-2

Team B: 4-2

Team C: 2-5

Team D: 2-4

You could draw names out of a hat or better yet put a map on the wall wear a blindfold and throw darts at it. I think that what some do now:lol:

Tournament games do not count, only the home and away games, therefore if teams tie then it goes to head to head in most all cases. This is done at District meetings in case of a tie, the coaches vote on it. More times than not it is head to head as first tie breaker then you flip a coin after that. Only the 6 games count toward district seeds. Of course I could be wrong but I have been told this before by many coaches in several regions.

The KHSAA website said nothing I could find about tourney games not counting. But, if there is a tie, the winner of the last game between the tied teams gets the top seed.

This is correct. In case of a tie, the annual district meeting, held before each district tournament, decides how to break the tie. Usually it's a coin toss.

Well, I knew if there was a tie, then it would be whoever won the most road games, or that was how it was in the 48th. Southwestern had won on each teams floor, and therefore they won the #1 seed even though there was a tie.
