The Yellow Jackets (24-13) and Colts (25-14) meet on Thursday, June 2nd at 1:30pm at Kentucky Proud Park in Lexington. Neither squad was favored to be here. Woodford County knocked off Top 25 ranked North Oldham to punch its ticket, while DeSales had to beat the top 3 teams in the 6th Region tournament to reach Lexington.

Game changers

Cole Dycus (Woodford) 9-1 with a 0.68 ERA in 62 innings pitched

Alexander Yurt (DeSales) .411 BA | 43 runs scored | 29 RBIs | 15 doubles | 27 stolen bases

Bryce Patterson (Woodford) .355 BA | 4 HRs | 28 RBIs

Matthias Conner (DeSales) .351 BA | 44 runs scored | 38 stolen bases

Woodford County is only allowing 3.2 runs per game and only twice have allowed double-digit runs, against St. Xavier and Madison Central (both state tournament teams). DeSales is a little better offensively and allowed only one run in three region tournament games. I suspect this game is a 2-1 or 3-2 final that could go either way.

Jacob Parker (DeSales, 1.78 ERA) and Cole Dycus (Woodford, 0.68 ERA) patrol the mounds today for their respective squads. Could be in for a pitcher's duel.

DeSales is up 5-3 after four innings and I was apparently all kinds of wrong in my prediction!

Jacob Crawford tripled to drive in a pair and extend the DeSales lead to 7-3. They're heading to the top of the 6th.

Repeat after me - you never know in baseball.

Without a doubt, on a game by game basis, baseball is the most difficult sport to predict.

For sure. I need to retire from making predictions, period. Across all sports. If I call for a low scoring war of attrition in any sport, you'd better believe it's going to be a shootout.

Back comes Woodford on a bases loaded walk and a wild pitch to trim the deficit to 7-6. Still in the top of the 6th.

A sac fly ties this one up at 7. Two outs in the top of the 6th.

The bleeding continues for DeSales. Woodford pulls ahead on a two out single by Justin Baker. It's now 8-7 Jackets.

James Hollon drives in two with two outs, still in the T6. Woodford has turned a four run deficit into a three run lead. It's now 10-7 Jackets.

DeSales has mercifully put and end to a 7 run inning by Woodford. The Colts' biggest bat is due up first in the B6.

DeSales is on the move with runners at 2nd and 3rd with one out.

Alexander Yurt scores on a sac fly before Justin Wilkins doubles in another run with two outs. DeSales could get no closer. Let's go to the 7th.

10-9 Woodford
