Granted, while Beechwood is the deeper team, they will likely face re-classified Senior Dalton Davenport, who went 8-1 a year ago, with a 1.06 era, striking out 128 batters in 59 innings of work, on a team that went 24-7.  In Tuesday's 10th Region Championship game versus Brossart (a normally good contact team) he allowed no runs on three scattered singles, and struck out 16.  Nicholas County won that game 3-0, the result of a Dalton Davenport three run home-run in the home half of the first inning.

I'm quite interested in seeing how effective he will be vs Beechwood.

Nicholas County went with Soph. Ryan Johnson who is getting interest from UK. He actually has better numbers than Davenport this year.

Davenport 2-2, 2.83 ERA and 31 k's in 17.1 innings

Johnson 2-0, 0.91 ERA and 23 K's in 15.1 innings. Johnson had only allowed 4 hits all year coming into the game today.

Johnson is a really impressive young player. He'll be a star for the next two years for the Bluejackets. He struggled location wise yesterday. If not for a few lapses in control, it might have been a heck of a game.

Here is the All A update:

Quarterfinals results from yesterday:

Lyon County 5 Hazard 3

Pikeville 4 Glasgow 1

Beechwood 16 Walton-Verona 2 (5 innings)

Danville 17 Campbellsville 6

Semi-Finals:

Pikeville 3 Lyon County 1 - upset in this game with Lyon County in the top 5 in the state

Danville vs Beechwood - in action; BW leads 2 -1 after the first inning; Cameron Boyd lead off HR for BW, #10 on the season for him; Beechwood home team; Danville's Baxter vs Beechwood's Berger

Here is a link to the Beechwood broadcast for anyone interested https://mixlr.com/beechwood-sports-radio-network/

Baxter and Berger have both settled in after the first. Strikeouts abound with an occasional batter making contact for each team. Still 2-1 Beechwood headed to the top of the 4th.

Crunch time. Top 6. Beechwood leads 2-1. Danville has top of the order up. Berger up to 80 pitches. This will probably be his last inning.

Beechwood gets the win in a classic.  Berger outduels Baxter. O'Shea comes on in the 7th to get the save. All the runs for both teams were scored in the first inning. Cameron Boyd with a HR and fantastic over the shoulder, diving catch in CF for the last out of the game. Final score Beechwood wins 2-1.

Championship game will be Beechwood versus Pikeville. Should start around 3 pm.

No score after one inning in the title game. Brady Clark pitching for Pikeville and Sam Stacy on the mound for Beechwood. You can use the link above to listen.

Pikeville adds 4 in the top of the 6th without hitting a ball out of the infield. It felt like CCH coach Bill Krumpelbeck was in the Pikeville dugout. A walk, 3 bunts, never hit a ball out of the infield and plated 4. Pikeville plays small ball with the best of them. I don't think they have a hit today that has gone more than 120 feet and they have 10 runs.

Beechwood finally gets a bleeder hit of their own. Tigers score 2 in the bottom of the 6th. Pikeville leads 10-7 headed to the 7th.
