I'll post the 8th Region tournament preview this afternoon after I get back from New Castle.

District champs:  29th - Oldham County   30th - Woodford County    31st - Owen County    32nd - Walton-Verona

District runner-ups:  29th - North Oldham    30th - Collins     31st - Gallatin County    32nd - Grant County

Oldham County has drawn Collins 2 of the last 4 years (2018 and 2019)....another Colonels-Titans first round tussle could be in the works again, as Collins finished as a runner-up and Oldham is a district champ....   If it happens, it could be "the game" of round 1.....?!

Walton-Verona is red-hot coming into the tournament....perhaps the hottest team in the tournament.   After finishing the last two seasons in late-season slumps, the Bearcats have their mojo heading into this year's tournament...

Pre-season #1 North Oldham comes into the tourney limping after an up-and-down final two weeks...   If the Mustangs regain their form, they will be one of the favorites.  But they've been a real enigma this season....

Owen County brings the 8th Region POY to the dance.... if you saw Teagan Moore last year, but haven't seen him this year, you're in for a treat.   Amazing how much improvement someone (who was already a stud) can make in a year...

Gallatin probably is going to be overlooked by a lot of folks, but the Wildcats are riding four seniors in the starting lineup to New Castle....it's a veteran group that doesn't like to lose.   And Gallatin played a gritty district tournament shorthanded...they should be at full-strength this week.

Grant County has had a heck of a year, but the Braves have lost 7 of their last 9.....Dylan Hammonds is a double-double machine....    Despite having 15 losses, everyone should note that Grant has played everyone tough - and they own victories over some of their tourney foes....

....and Woodford County quietly will enter this tournament as the prohibitive favorite.    Woodford hasn't quite been as dominant as some expected, but all the Yellowjackets do is win....

More to come this afternoon.

That North Oldham vs. Walton-Verona game looks like the "can't miss" game in round 1.

All four first round games are rematches of regular season contests:
Collins beat Owen County, 67-49, in Shelbyville way back on December 7th....

North Oldham beat Walton-Verona, 75-68, at W-V on 12/14....

Oldham County beat Gallatin County, 84-60, on 2/10/22 at Oldham County....

Woodford County beat Grant County, 58-55, in their second game of the season on 12/2/21 at Grant.

I wish all regions would broadcast their tournaments for free.

Pegasus Sports was started on the radio in 1979, moved to cable television in the mid-80s, back to radio, and then to the internet in 2005.

I have always intended Pegasus to be a public service - though I once was a full-time professional broadcaster, I am not anymore - and have endeavored to keep the broadcasts free, although mounting expenses makes it difficult.

I hope you enjoy our coverage of the boys' and girls' 8th Region tournaments.   The broadcasts are live, but will also be archived for one year after the broadcast date.

Todd Gilley will join me in the broadcast booth on Wednesday and Thursday of this week.
