NKY Girls Basketball Top 10 -- Week 12 (Final Ranking)

Featured Replies

Well, we've reached the end of the regular season and we now begin my favorite couple of weeks of the basketball calendar -- districts and region!!!  I won't outline next opponents below because I'll have a separate thread with all of the area district match-ups and schedule for the week.  I will, however, also show you where I had a team ranked in the first ranking 11 weeks ago, mostly to show you badly I botched the 7-10 spots in week 1.  I did pause on leaving Ryle at #3, but truly, I don't believe anyone below them would have beaten either Notre Dame or SHA either, and since they just beat Cooper, it gave me the confidence I needed to leave them as they were.   St. Henry and Coach Todd Smart jumps into the last ranking on the strength of their win this week over Ludlow by 1 -- so welcome to the party Cru!  Heck of a rebound from a 4-win team last season, congrats.

Also, before you feel too concerned about Notre Dame losing 7 seniors for next season, know that the Pandas won both the Freshmen and JV regionals last night at Ryle...super impressive.   The pipeline is full of great talent for the Pandas.  I wanted to give the JV All Tournament Team and Freshmen All Tournament Team their just due, but I can't find a picture / list of the JV team, and while I found a picture of the Freshmen All Tournament Team, I don't know all of the players, nor do I have the list of the players that were recognized that didn't head to Ryle for their plaque and well earned round of applause.  So feel free to use this thread to also give just recognition to those JV and Freshmen young ladies that were deservedly honored for All Tournament Team status!

Here we go, the Final Top 10 of the season:

1.  Notre Dame     (21-3)     Was #2 in our initial ranking.

2.  Conner     (22-3)     Was #6

3.  Ryle     (18-8)     Was #1

4.  Cooper     (18-9)     Was #3

5.  Dixie     (22-7)     Was #4

6.  Holy Cross     (18-12)     Was #5

7.  Bishop Brossart     (18-10)     Was #18

8.  Simon Kenton     (16-11)     Was #12

9.  NewCath     (19-10)     Was #11

10. St. Henry     (16-13)     Was #16

Good luck to everyone in districts this week, and look for that thread to be up in just about an hour or so.  Thanks for following along this year, I've only had one person rip on "Double Deuce" to me, having no idea it was me, so I take that as a win.  Ha!!!

The Birds are ready to fly!! Perfect that Marissa is playing her best ball lately.

Good work this year on the weekly rankings DD ! With the top 5 being so loaded it was hard for much movement into the top 5 all year long. Those top 5 are really strong with Holy Cross being #6. I agree with your rankings heading into post season play. Best of luck to all teams.

Last year, both favorites (some would say heavy favorites), Ryle girls and CCH boys, were upset in the Regional Semi's.

No disrespect to Conner, bc I have not seen them play, but I expect Cooper to make noise in both district and regional tournament.  If they are finally healthy, Cooper has the talent and guard play to get hot and upset NDA (who has earned clear favorite status).
