BluegrassPreps.com 6th Region Boys week 11 review

Recommended Posts

The 6th region tournament is shaping up to be one to remember!  Going into this last week of the regular season, let's see what's shaking this week in the 6th!!

1.  Jeffersontown (18-7) The Chargers will likely enter the post-season in the #1 spot of the rankings.  Their depth and athleticism is a tough combo.  The Vasser brothers (sr. Will 13.7ppg and so. Dre 12.8ppg) have been leading the way for the Chargers, but F Lavonte Harris, G Terrall Cleaves and W Xavier Price all chip-in, averaging around 10ppg.   They  have an intriguing match up with Butler on 2/15.

2. PRP (18-5)  The Panthers beat arch-rival Butler last week in 2OT and will stay in the #2 spot for another week.  PRP has an impressive 3-man attack with jr. PG Zee McCown (19.3ppg), jr. F Keith Robinson (17.2ppg), and sr. C Vic Lado (15ppg).  Jr. G Greg Cole has also asserted himself lately, contributing at 10pg and taking pressure off of McCown at the point. PRP host HFC on 2/16 before a HUGE game, hosting Western on 2/18.

3. Western (21-4)  The Warriors could easily be in the top spot, but currently sit at #3.  Jr. G Trent Hinkle leads the team in scoring at 15.2ppg, and is starting to earn some Region POY buzz. Julius Edmonds and fr. Kaden Magwood are also main contributors (both 13ppg) on this deep and very athletic team.  Next up for Western is Moore on 2/15 before a BIG game @ PRP on 2/18.

4. Doss (18-7)   Doss has been in the top 5 all season and has avoided the dreaded 4/5 game in the tough 22nd district.  The Dragons are lead by the strong duo of sr.'s Inslee Carroll (18.0ppg), Tony Moss (16.2ppg).  They next host Fairdale on 2/15.

5. Iroquois (21-4)  The  Raiders hold at #5.  The Q is  paced by sr. Davion Burton (12.2ppg), but jr. Jordan Williamson (12.0ppg) is among FOUR starters that average double digits. They next play South Oldham on 2/15

6. Butler  (15-12)   I guarantee there isn't a better 12 loss team in the state than Butler. Mershon Dickerson (16.7ppg), Julion Beard (11.6ppg), and Chavez Woods (12.9ppg) lead Butler in scoring.  The Bears travel to J-town on 2/15 for a possible Region tourney preview game.

7. Evangel  (16-9)  WATCH OUT - the Eagles are now full-strength and might be rounding into form (nice win over KY top-20 Madison Central).  Guards Christian Spalding (13.9ppg)  is pacing Evangel, w/ jr. C Cyr Malonga controlling the middle and G. Kyran Tilley (10.1ppg) chipping in.  The Eagles next travel to Warren Central on 2/15

8. Fern Creek (11-13)   Fern Creek has the athletes and scoring ability to give any team issues.  A team you don't want to see come Region time. Sr. Darian Lewis is pacing FC at 15.9ppg, and fellow sr. G Jaden Schooler is at 13.4ppg.  They next travel to PRP on 2/15

9. DeSales (12-12)    The Colts currently have a balanced attack, with 4 players averaging double figures (Will Gibson leads team at 15.6ppg)  They next host Bullitt East on 2/15

10. Bullitt East  (15-11)  BE has been on the improve and might be ready to make some noise come tourney time. Sr. Tucker Blandford is the leader of BE (15.9ppg) - they travel to DeSales on 2/15

 11. Southern  (11-12) The Trojans have lost some of their early season momentum, but could still cause some issues in the post-season  The Trojans are led by sr. G Cam Pfiester (17.6ppg)- who I think is one of the most underrated players in the region- and jr.  Xavier Shobe (12.0ppg).  Next up for the Trojans is a date with Valley on 2/15.

12. Bullitt Central  (18-8)  Senior Hunter Coleman is leading BC at 22.0ppg.

13. Fairdale (11-15)   So.'s Dalton Hicks(18.8ppg) and Jacob Tucker (18.2ppg) give Fairdale a solid 1-2 punch.

14. Beth Haven (20-6) Sr. F Luka Mateski is averaging a team high 24.1ppg (leads the region).

15. Holy Cross  (13-13) so. F Jacob Hand is leading HC is scoring at 20ppg.

16. Moore (6-18)

17. North Bullitt (9-17)

18. Valley (4-22)

19. Whitefield Academy (7-17)

Evangel must not have been at full strength when Pikeville beat them at the All A State by 10. Evangel played Breathitt County in Jackson yesterday and beat them 50 points. Pikeville only beat Breathitt County by 10.
I watched some of the game yesterday on BSN streaming service. Evangel looked like an NAIA college team. They may not win the 6th region but whoever defeats them had better come ready to play!
