South Oldham vs. North Oldham Predictions/Updates

Featured Replies

South Oldham (8-10) travels to North Oldham (13-7) Friday night in a big district / rivalry game. A South win sends the teams into a 3-way tie with Oldham County. North punches a ticket to the region tournament with a win.

South Oldham features experienced seniors Ben Michel (Taylor University commit) and Cole Davis (Lindsey Wilson commit). North Oldham has a strong class of juniors led by Dallas Roberts, Jack Scales and Ian Higdon.

North wins if all their starters are back, wait a minute, North wins anyway.  Where is Taylor U. at?

Upland, Indiana. NAIA. Home of the original “Silent Night” basketball game.

Game is Friday February 4

Girls game   6 pm (winner gets the district #1 seed and auto berth in the region)

Boys game  about 7:30 pm (North gets #1 seed with win; South sends it to a 3-way tie with a win.   Tiebreaker is points differential in games between the three teams, so all three teams - North, South, and Oldham - are still in the running if South wins.)

Broadcast - both games will be broadcast live (free, hi-def) video on www.pegasussportsky.com

Scenarios in the event South forces a 3-way tie....

North controls their own destiny and earns the #1 seed and the automatic berth in the region tournament with a win.

If South wins the boys game and forces a 3-way tie....

Oldham wins #1 seed if South wins by 3-8 points   (an 8 point win would leave Oldham and South both at +2 in point differential, and Oldham would break that tie by virtue of head-to-head win over South)

South wins the #1 seed if the Dragons beat North by more than 8 points.

North can win the #1 seed even if the Mustangs lose to South if the Dragons beat North by less than 3 points.    (if South beats North by 2, then the Mustangs would be tied in point differential with Oldham County at +2, and the Mustangs would get the #1 seed by virtue of their head-to-head win over Oldham.)

This will be a LOT of fun....

Game moved again, this time to MONDAY 2/7/22

Same times (6 pm girls, approx 7:30 boys)

Both games broadcast live free hi-def video on www.pegasussportsky.com.....

South Oldham leads the all-time series, 19-14, but North has won the last two, beating South twice last year:

North 52, South 48 regular season 2/8/21

North 75, South 63 district 29 round 1, 3/16/21

In the most recent game, North shot 56.8% from the floor, including 10 of 20 from beyond the arc.   Dallas Roberts had 25 points, and Ian Higdon and "Rico" Carr-Cole each had 17.    Higdon and Roberts are both back this year.

South also shot well, hitting 55% of their shots and 9 of 22 threes (41%).    The teams battled to a 26-26 tie on the glass.   South was led by Cole Davis' 24 points.   Davis also returns to this year's fray.

Both teams shot in the high 60s at the line, but North made 5 more free throws.

We will go "on air" at www.pegasussportsky.com immediately after the girls' game, or about 7:30 pm.

The #1 district seed will be decided by this game - but all three district teams - Oldham, South Oldham, and North Oldham - are all in the mix.

In the 33 game series, neither team has won more than four in a row.   North is currently on a 2 game winning streak.

Not sure what to think of this one.  Hoping for a good, close game.  And that's not an unreasonable request, just based on some comparative scores (dangerous, I know).  The most obvious is the OC game for each - South had the lead in that one for most of the first half and into the second, and OC had the lead against North until about 3 minutes to go in the 4th.  It's a rivalry game.  Both teams have had trouble keeping their lineup intact from both Covid and injury.  I think both are fully weaponized at this point, but you don't know if they've had time to redevelop chemistry and if the kids that have been out have game legs, etc.

It will be interesting to see what the crowd is like tonight for this rivalry game.  Monday night crowds do not usually equal Friday night crowds.  The Friday night Oldham County vs. South Oldham and South Oldham vs. North Oldham environments are usually some of the best in the state . . . St. X vs. Trinity and Ballard vs. Male level!

Pegasus on air in 2 minutes     www.pegasussportsky.com

District #1 seed will be determined tonight!
