Bluebirds 22

Colonels 20

Here is some more details to this battle.

Cov Cath jumped out to a Halftime lead of 14-0.  The rain was coming down in buckets in the first half, several passes were just slipping right thru the receivers hands.

Highlands finally grabbed a touchdown in the 3rd quarter.  I believe it was a 4th and goal play with Lorenzen going off left tackle just bulldozed a Colonel into the end zone. (XP’ good) 14-8 Colonels

Highlands then struck again on a long pass play down the sideline. (XP no good) 14-14.

Cov Cath then drove down the field with the benefit of 2 pass interference plays to get it to the 1 foot line.  On 1st down the Colonels instead of punching it in on a run play went for a pass play that went right into the hands of a Birds player.

Highlands then marched down the field and capitalized on a nice long passing play. (XP good) 22-14 Birds

Cov Cath then went down the field and with 1 min left scored on a wide open pass I believe, to make it 22-20, the first PAT was shanked but Highlands was called for a penalty.  The second PAT was shanked again with no flags on the field.  Birds still lead 22-20.

Colonels didn’t succeed on the onside kick, Birds ran a few times to get Cov Cath to burn their remaining timeouts, got the crucial 1st down conversion on 3rd and 2, to make Cov Cath burn their final timeout……Victory formation after that……BIRDS WIN!!!!!

A very exciting game to watch!!!!

In Middle School Football, the PAT (kick) is worth 2pts.  I think the typical 2pt conversion in Big Boy football is only worth 1pt in Middle School football.

I believe I am correct in this statement.

This is correct. In this League having a good kicker can be deadly.

Absolutely. In the highlands 8th grade championship game I believe the blue team’s kicker was 5-5 on extra points and had a field goal. It adds up.

could be wrong on the extra point totals.

You are correct on that.  White kicker also made a PAT, so that is 6 for 6 for 8th grade kickers.  Also looked like neither used a block which is pretty impressive.
