Both Highlands and Walton Verona finished out their regular season games tonight at Walton, and the Birds were victorious in a rout that was never really in question. 

Highlands jumped out of the gate with a 12-0 run, and ended the 1st quarter up 22-8

The 2nd period saw the Bearcats come into form as they started knocking down some of their shots, and managed to cut the lead to 8 with about a minute to go in the half, but the Birds took advantage of that last minute, and built that lead back up to 14 taking a 42-28 lead in to halftime. 

The 3rd quarter saw the Birds continue to run away with it, ending the quarter up 62-39

The Birds got their reserves in the game with 2:00 minutes left in the 4th, and the game came to a close Highlands 80 Walton Verona 59

The usual suspects, Vinson, Muller, Herald, and Barth for the Birds got there’s with an assortment of 3’s and a couple of fancy dunks all for good measure. 

 

Looks like WV should've stayed out of the 9th this year. Some big losses.

Four of the eight losses were to ranked teams. Bearcats played St. X and Mason Co. too. They've got a good core group coming back next year. I think the tough scheduling will serve them well.

This was a good move on the part of W-V (the schedule)  They're very young - only one senior among the top 5 - and they really have very limited size.   Mike Hester made a nice move, scheduling-wise, to challenge this group.   They went 0-8 versus the 9th, but were competitive in losses to HC (-13), Ryle (-3), Beechwood (-4), and Holmes (-9).   They fared better against the 10th, going 2-1, with wins over Campbell and Scott and a narrow 2 point loss to Mason.

The four "big losses" to ninth region squads were to St. Henry, CovCath, Highlands, and Dixie....  That's a pretty rough gauntlet that most teams will pile up big losses to.  LOL

I've only seen W-V once this year, but I would say the Bearcat fans have to be pretty excited about the potential for next year's team, given the story this year so far.

Very cool... I didn't realize that Mike Hester was Walton's coach. Love it when past players become present coaches.
