ColonelMike Posted March 3, 2021 Posted March 3, 2021 Heartbreaker for South ....hard to score against that Collins defense, though.
ConverseAllStar Posted March 3, 2021 Posted March 3, 2021 I believe South had a 10 point lead in the second half.

Yes, and a 7 point lead at the end of the 3rd period, 43-36. Which means, if you carry the 1, Collins outscored South 16-5 in the 4th quarter. There was a frantic 3 in the final minute, so South had a single 2 point basket in the first 7+ minutes of the final frame. This team simply has trouble scoring. Actually, the start of the game had the look of an easy Collins win - they were dicing South’s defense up for layup after layup. Didn’t seem to matter what defense the Dragons tried, there was a Titan cutting to the basket unguarded. Then Simpson pulls out something from the mothballs, and goes with a 1-2-2 tight zone. All 5 guys with a foot in the lane. Suddenly, no more cuts to the rim, and Collins wouldn’t or couldn’t make them pay for it on the perimeter. Before you know it, as ConverseAllStar said, South is up 10. And in control the rest of the first half and thru the 3rd quarter. I just watched Kentucky lose (again). So much has been made of their repeated failures in close games, I wonder if by now the UK players expect to lose - or at least have very little belief they can prevail when it’s close and late in the game. At this point, I have to wonder the same thing about South Oldham. They have lost 7 of 8, and ooff the top of my head only the Simon Kenton game was never in doubt. Most of those losses were tight affairs, and the Dragons can’t find a way to win.

Tough loss, but a quick glance at the schedule suggests that South has 3 winnable games to finish the season (after Spencer on Thursday). 1
