Reports out there that LSU is willing to give him minimum $2.5 mil to be their new DC. Hopefully a decision tomorrow or Sat.
January 8, 20215 yr Author This one definitely wasn't expected... Starting DT Curtis Brooks is returning for another year.
January 8, 20215 yr Marcus Freeman appears to be headed for ND. Huge loss for UC, they just can’t keep coaches.
January 8, 20215 yr Author Thamel is Fick's guy so guessing he spoke directly to Freeman or Fick on this. Big loss since MF is a future star in the coaching ranks, but whoever the next DC is has ALOT of talent to work with. Timing sucks though with UC playing ND this year.

He was supposed to take over for Fick. This never ending carousel of coaches leaving is getting old.

Under Fick, there has been more continuity than ever when it comes to UC coaching staffs staying intact. This is the first "big hire" Fick is having to make. Denbrock (OC), Freeman (DC), Guidugli (Passing Game Coordinator/QBC), Crook (OL), Brian Mason (ST Coordinator), Jon Tenuta (SR D Analyst), and Brady Collins (Strength Coach) have all been here since Year 1. Marcus Freeman is definitely a loss, but as long as Fick is here, I'm confident the train will keep rolling. He's a defensive guy so he will make a great hire. And I'm not worried about recruiting. UC's recruiting staff is top notch and regularly gets mentioned when kids commit to UC. Pat Lambert and Austin Schaffer are top notch when it comes to the on campus recruiting and scouting side of things.

I’m really irritated.

Luckily, the majority of these players are in this program because of Fick and his culture and not their position coach or coordinator. UC will be fine. I fully expect that UC defense to show up with a little extra motivation and fire on 10/2 when they visit South Bend.
