Russell Special Teams

Featured Replies

If you all new the whole facts about the kicking game. You would understand that it takes three. A good snap, a good hold, and a good kick. Russell kicker had 7 PAT's that he actually missed when he put a foot on it. The other where due to a bad snap or a dropped hold. Plus you can not mess with a kickers head when one time he kicks and the other time he dont ????????

The FG was called with over 8 min left in the 3rd Qtr. This game was lost due to the terrible play calling by the coaches ?????????????

Sorry, but I'm not buying what you're selling...I'd be willing to bet money that there were more way more than 7 PAT's missed when he got a foot on it. There were 3 the last two games alone...

As for who kicks, if you're inconsistent, be ready for the coaches to go another route. It happens all the time at all levels of the game.

Russell won't be anything next yr. without Kasey Clark. He was their whole team.

IMO, this statement just serves to show how little you know about football and the Russell program...

I totally agree. Special teams can make a big difference in a game but when your coach wants you to squibb kick the ball and drop it around the 30 to 35 to prevent the run back ??????????? Don't understand it either. When #23 would kick it. The run back was normally around 6 - 12 yrds. So that would mean a kick dropped on the 6 to 15 and the ball would be run back to the around the 18 to 25. You figure the math instead of the 30 to 35. You figure the math.

Unfortunately, he wasn't able to consistently do that in games and had problems controlling where his kicks went. Being on the sideline, I'm betting I know more about what the coaches asked of the kickers than most on here. They would have loved for him to give a consistent kick inside the 10 with some hang time, but it just wasn't happening.

That might be the most moronic statement ever typed on BGP. Russell will be just fine. Graduation happens every year. You should worry about your Tomcats and everything they are losing.;)

Those squibb kicks were never criticized last year when the bounces went in Russells favor. If you want to be critical of the coaching then you have to say they were wrong in 2005 as well. Oh yeah, nobody did because they won the state championship instead of losing a hard fought game to a very good team by three points.

You can play what ifs all day. What if Russell scores just one of those times they were inside the Mercer 30 yard line. What if Mercer doesn't get the 2pt conversion on the bobbled snap. What if the referees blew the whistle like they should have on the QB sneak on 4th down. Sometimes things just don't go your way.

Devils will be fine for years to come .. Everything is in place to sustain winning on Red Devil Lane , both sides of the street ... Most high schools don't have the facilities the Russell JFL has ...

Russell has lost way more than Ashland did.

OK there chief. We will just have to wait until next year to find out.

McDavid, Davis, Walters, Snodgrass, Bonner just to name a few.

I think we're WAY off topic here... Yes "WE" both lose many talented players. And I hope "WE" both can reload. Some of our Maroon colored glasses on this side seem get a little jealous of seeing the Red Devils advance so far. I for one would like to congratulate Russell on another exceptional season! I could care less what class either Russell or Ashland is playing in Russell plays top notch football!

As far as special teams goes....Its one of those over looked things by fans until it isn't working... Trust me the staff is putting the best kids on the field with punting and kicking but sometimes they might not be consistant...ITS HIGH SCHOOL!!! I can only remember a couple of kids that were money on EPs every time here at Ashland and those kickers were "special". I can't believe some Red Devils are blaming the kids:irked:

I agree with everything you just said.

Russell has lost way more than Ashland did.

Yes, but we have also gained ALOT more. I am not sure if you saw the Belfry game, well probably not, but Russell proved it has a lot of players that play besides Kasey. (taking nothing away from Kasey, he is good) We are going to have a great season! See you at Ivan McGlone field Tomcat!:fire:

Oh we'll see you there Devil! :jump: :flame:

Looks like this thread has already digressed into a Russell vs Ashland smackdown. Can't wait to get the Tomcats back to "The Hank" in '07.
