Russell Special Teams

Featured Replies

Those squibb kicks were never criticized last year when the bounces went in Russells favor. If you want to be critical of the coaching then you have to say they were wrong in 2005 as well. Oh yeah, nobody did because they won the state championship instead of losing a hard fought game to a very good team by three points.

You can play what ifs all day. What if Russell scores just one of those times they were inside the Mercer 30 yard line. What if Mercer doesn't get the 2pt conversion on the bobbled snap. What if the referees blew the whistle like they should have on the QB sneak on 4th down. Sometimes things just don't go your way.

Didn't say that I disagree with it totally. But don't understand it starting off the game ??????? I know that Russell had a heck of a time with bad snaps or it would be a dropped hold and the kicker would take the blame with stride. Heck one game there 3 different holders and once there was not even a holder ???????????? That's like a QB having a different center every snap.

Just freshly off a week in the penalty box for my comments regarding the Mercer faithful.

Russell special teams over the years have been very good. Yes there have been crucial times when they have let down, but consider there have been times when the other teams special teams let down and Russell won the game. It comes and it goes. You win some and you loose some. Russell will always be a very competative team. I'm not concerned about the kickers. Yes it would be nice to have Dan Meko remain a senior for years. If I recall right Evans made several kicks his junior year that had they been missed Russell would not have been the state champion.

Do you remember why there was three different holders????? Injuries!!!!

No holder....Injury!!!

The Weather........Rain was also is a big factor in the snapper getting the ball to the holder and the holder being able to get it down and in place! It is part of the game!

Well, if it's part of the game, then why are some seem to be critizing the kicker. Evans is a great kid who gives his all. Me may have lost a little confidence, but maybe he felt coaches did too.

I don't think for one minute that McGloan lost any confidence in Evans. McGloan did not hesitate to put Evans in to attempt a 42 yard FG. I think football is one of them sports where the kicker can be isolated and pointed out. Evans did a great job all year long.

Maybe we can get the All state Tabler girl who was also the MVP during the state allstar game to kick for Russell next year. Other teams have done it why not Russell.

I hope this is not a smack in the special teams face and just a showing of your good humor ?????????????? Evans is a good kid and probable one of the most consistent at showing up for practice every day. From Jan. weights to Jan. weights. No other kicker in Russell history has been there every with the players thru the off season weights and show for every practice.
