Not really.

Another game in this series comes down to the wire. Last year with about 5 minutes left, FS had a lead and was able to grind it out and run out the clock. Tonight in the same situation, they convert a fourth down but then fumble the game away.

 

FS offense looked much better tonight especially in the second half. Mixing in a few more passes but one bad interception and one crucial drop played a big role in the loss. Too many offensive penalties for both teams but defensive penalties for FS hurt them badly on Meade’s third TD drive.

 

Austin Oppel was a very good running back for Meade. They probably don’t win this game without him. FS did a better job of containing him in the second half except for a big third down conversion he made on a reception and the winning TD run. He’s fun to watch.

 

Meade County was tough. They made the most of the opportunities they got with the turnovers they forced. Their defense did a good job of containing the Wildcats’ speed.

 

I saw improvement in FS tonight. Still some growing and learning to do. May well start 0-4 but should be in good shape when they finally start playing 4A teams.

Lots of correctable mistakes by FS tonight.

This was a fun game. FS is as good as I thought they were.

 

Both teams had backup centers playing and you could definitely tell, especially Meade’s. Meade actually went to their 3rd string center at halftime.

 

As a Meade fan I’m thrilled to walk away with a win. Meade has ran the Wing T for 30 years and this was game 1 in our new offense. I haven’t seen the stats yet but I’m pretty sure we out gained FS.
