Congratulations to the Mustangs. The score may not show it but Dayton looks a whole lot better, three solid running backs and a good offensive line, it just needs to clean up a little more. Dayton had several red zone possessions but couldn’t score. I look forward to seeing how both teams do the rest of the season. I didn’t keep stats, but I would say that Dayton put up over 200 yards on the ground.

I was impressed with the quarterback from Brossart too.

Dandy Class 1A independent contest at Bob Miller Stadium.

The Mustangs in a somewhat re-building mode after graduating sixteen seniors, filled those shoes admirably.

Senior Sam Howard, who scored one touchdown and averaged 2.6 yards per game a year ago, scored three touchdowns, including an 81 yard run. Quarterback Trevor Schadler accounted our remaining score on a 2 yard keeper just prior to the half.

Junior quarterback Schadler shows a new dimension to this Mustangs lineup - the ability to throw strikes, and a quick turn of foot, that makes him a major offensive threat.

Brossart opened up an 18-0 lead with 2:50 to play in the half, when Dayton's Austin Connley ran back a Brossart kick-off, and when Caulyn Asher completed the two-point conversion, the Greendevils had trimmed the Brossart 18 points lead to 10 in a matter of 14 seconds. The half ended with the Mustangs on top 18-8.

There was no additional scoring in the third quarter, but Brossart expanded the lead to 24-8 when Sam Howard broke free for his 81 yard scamper early in the fourth quarter.

Dayton threatened on several occasions but fumbled away one serious threat, and the Mustangs defense held on 4th and 1 deep in Brossart territory.

 

It was good to see a sizable number of players suited up, or on the sidelines in Dayton jerseys.

Brossart will have their hands full as we invade Newport Stadium next Friday night for an encounter with the highly touted Newport Wildcats.

It was Jordan Marksberry who ran back the Brossart kick-off for 80 yards and a touchdown.

Congratulations mustangs on the win. Greendevils you have what it takes to win as well. Study the film, learn and get ready for next Friday.

Jordan Marksberry and Austin Connley should make a nice 1-2 combo for Dayton. With Bellevue's most explosive player out(Hazeres), the Greendevils should be favored over my Tigers next week.
