Chance for severe weather continues on Monday 6/17/19

Featured Replies

The Storm Prediction Center has the entire state of Kentucky along with most of Indiana and Ohio in a category 1 Marginal Risk Area for widely scattered severe storms on Monday.

Some destabilization is forecast to take place on Monday from southern Illinois into southern Indiana and western Kentucky. Conditions could be favorable for scattered thunderstorms development by midday. Although the deep layer shear is forecast to be marginal for severe storms, conditions could be strong enough for isolated strong wind gusts.

Update in the morning.

In the wake of early day activity destabilization will again occur this afternoon. The most unstable air will be farther east. To indicate this the Storm Prediction Center has moved the category 1 Marginal Risk Area eastward. It now covers parts of Kentucky east of I-65.

Possible scattered strong to severe storms are expected to develop later this afternoon into the evening hours. The main threats look to be sporadic marginal hail and localized damaging wind gust. As for the timing, it looks like as of this morning around 3 pm EDT. The following HRRR Ohio Valley Radar is from 2 -10 pm EDT today.

Be weather award in your area later today.

It appears we are in a weather pattern where each day at least through Wednesday some will have to possibility of strong to severe storms in Kentucky.

Then the chance for storms shifts to the western part of Kentucky on Wednesday.

Ugh...have to pack our truck for our trip (leaving on Friday). Had hoped to have it done by Wednesday, but with no garage to do it from, it looks like I'll have to wait. Do you have any outlook for Thursday yet, @nWo ?

When will traditional summer weather arrive? I know the rain helps things grow, but it would be nice to have a period of time where there is really warm, dry conditions to finally hit the pool!

Look for more of the same on Thursday morning showers then a break and heavy showers in the afternoon. Most of the heaviest rain accumulations look to be south of I-64. Some close to the Tennessee border could receive upwards or 2-3 inches just on Thursday alone.

The 6-10 and 8-14 day shows above normal temperatures but also above normal precipitations so it may be July before we see normal summer. I don't know if this has any bearing on our weather but I've been reading about the Grand Solar Minimum that some are saying could affect the weather. This is where there is little to now sunspot activity on the sun. It is supposed to start either this year or next.

The severe threat has grown for this afternoon so I'm issuing a Severe Weather Alert Day. The information will be in another thread.

You do realize that you went WAY over my head on that one! I was wondering if I should cancel my pool membership here or just move to Florida. :isurrender:

:thumb: It is simply that there will be very little sun spot activity during the solar minimum. The period usually lasts about 11 years or so. Research has shown that the sun does have an effect on the earth's weather. It is said that a prolonged solar minimum called the Maunder Minimum helped contribute to the mini ice age back in the late 1600s to early 1700s. Now no one is saying that we are heading for a new ice age just that this is something I've been studying and reading up on the solar minimum since we have been having some unusually cool weather for June.
