MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The Memphis Grizzlies fired coach Mike Fratello on Thursday after an NBA-worst 6-24 start.

 

 

The Grizzlies' career winningest coach, Fratello had a 95-83 record and had guided Memphis to consecutive playoff appearances. Tony Barone Sr., the Grizzlies' director of player personnel, was selected to be the interim coach.

Fratello started the season without All-Star center Pau Gasol, who broke his foot this summer in the world championships and missed the first 22 games.

 

 

"Unfortunately, this season has been one of disarray starting this past summer," Fratello said in a statement.

 

 

Jerry West, Grizzlies president of basketball operations, announced the move, calling Fratello a great coach and friend.

 

 

"We just felt it was time to make a change and move in a different direction based on our record and future goals. We wish Mike the best in his future endeavors," West said in a statement.

 

 

The change was made after the Grizzlies' 112-96 home loss to Milwaukee on Wednesday night, the fifth straight defeat and 11th in 12 games for Memphis.

Bryant spoiled the third-highest point total of his career by committing a foul on Derek Anderson's 3-point attempt with 1:14 left. Anderson hit all three free throws to give Charlotte a 129-124 lead.

 

Bryant then missed a long jumper and fouled on a charging call on the next possession to end his night. Bryant hit 22-of-45 shots and his performance trailed only his 81-point game last January in Toronto and a 62-point game last December in Dallas.

 

 

Lakers just didn't get in done on the defensive end tonight. Kobe took 45 shots and only got to the line 12 times. Thats not near enough for that many shots. He was 22-45 from the field which is pretty good. He was obviously looking to take control of this game. They wore out in the 3rd OT. Can't wait to see the highlights of this game.

Come on you know better than that. Its a long season and every team will have a few losses like this. Even a blind squirrel catches a nut every now and then.

They are my sleeper from the East kinda. They have struggled a bit but I think they are the one of the top 3 teams in the east. Putting Gordon back on the bench as the Th man has sure sparked this team. I like them to taken the crown as the Eastern conference champ.

They are 17-12 right now. 14-4 in the Eastern Conferance. 13-2 at Home & 4-10 on the road. If they played all there games at home I would consider them a strong contender for the Eastern Conferance crown. But really, they should go fairly deep into the Eastern Conferance playoffs & possibly win the East title.

Believe it or not, as much as I am a NBA fan, I actually do not have a favorite NBA team. I like players more than teams. Jason Willams (white version), Vince Carter, D Wade, Kobe, LBJ & AI to name a few. If I HAD to pick I would say New Jersey & Dallas would be my top 2 but again I'm not really into a certain team.
