Shelby Valley 47 Danville 30 (All A Classic)

Featured Replies

Final from Richmond.

Impressive win for Coach Hicks Wildcats. Danville one of the favorites to win this tournament.

How did the Ads only score 30 points?!?!

Danville took some crazy, crazy shots, they shot terrible from the field. Shelby Valley has a nice team. #10 is a player. Watching on prepspin #12 from Danville has the ultimate green light. I would like to see his percentage from the field. Danville's big men dont get enough touches IMO. #35 is a grown man.

This summarizes it nicely. Shot selection was often poor, as was layup percentage when they did get a good look inside. Danville missed shot after shot at the rim, many were unchallenged, and it seemed to be contagious. Shelby Valley's Cody Potter (#10) picked up two fouls early and Danville wisely went at him inside, and Potter was essentially conceding layups, but Danville failed to convert many of them and you could see the tension starting to mount. Ended up 11-48 from the field.

Potter has to be one of the top Juniors in the state. He is really good. Shelby Valley's Guard's (Worrix brothers) quickness gave Danville some trouble also.

A much smaller Shelby Valley out rebounded the Admirals 37-21, they were quicker to the ball all night long and deserved this win.

#12 for Danville is Sophomore Dante Hayden and he is around 40% from the 3-point line for the season, but he is streaky and last night he went stone cold after two early makes.

The key against Danville is maintaining possession of the ball and avoiding sloppy turnovers. Shelby Valley took care of the basketball well, ran through their offense multiple times, and made Danville play a lot of defense. Danville's defensive pressure can be tough but the longer they had to guard the more susceptible they were to giving up easy baskets. Shelby Valley was able to get several backdoors and other short, open looks.

I also think Danville lacks Guard play, I agree if Hayden is not hitting the 3 ball they get nothing out of their guards. Thats why they should play through those bigs. Kavanaugh not being 100% is really, really hurting Danville, he was a pass first point guard that got in the lane and set up his big post players.
