I would challenge the comment made, regarding the region being absent superstar talent. I do not believe you have to score 30+ points a night to be a superstar. I have seen superstar talent, defensively, within the region. I do agree Cooper is the front runner. Coach Sullivan is coaching a very unselfish group, led by Seniors. There is no void in talent when you think of a superstar like Dante Hendrix. Again, no NBA type scorer but a load of talent defensively.

 

I think sometimes people forget this is highschool basketball and want to see a show rather than a good game of basketball played correctly. Several schools are Senior heavy and I know coaches do not keep players just because they are Seniors. I am glad to see the level of play in the 9th region and across the state of Kentucky. It’s fun to watch. The class of 2019 is solid across the board.

I know Dante well and my Son played AAU ball with him. He stirred the drink and superb defensive player but he was on a very good squad and played a defined role. 9th is Senior heavy and competitive which makes it fun. A state champ is not coming from the 9th. In the past years that statement could not be said. IMO the 9th is down period. The coaches know as well.

You make some good points on each team. Beechwood having already played 9 games, and being 8-1 is impressive. Victories over LexCath, Scott, and Grant Co., with only a loss on the road at Cooper, Im surprised they are 4. Should be interesting to see how they handle Campbell County, at their own place on Friday night. CC is similar to Cooper, imo, but with some legit scorers.

 

I agree that in ways CC and Cooper are similar, however my take is the Cooper is the team with legit scorers while CC relies heavily on the inside force of Jolly.

 

I've seen Cooper twice and CC once, and saw Walters and Deere connecting from deep, but I'm not even sure CC made one 3 in their win against NewCath
