The Mustangs notched our first NKAC Division II win, a 67-59 win over the Holy Cross Indians on Wednesday night in Alexandria. We would fall behind early 11-4 forcing a Mike Code timeout. Our guys responded favorably, resulting in a 20-2 run, giving the home team a 24-13 mid second quarter advantage, which would become a 31-23 halftime lead.

J.D. Schumacher posted 11 first half points, and then went on to score 20 points, along with 10 rebounds to record a double-double - his second such achievement in the past three outings. Free-throws were our friends in this contest, as we took advantage of a 23-9 edge from the free-throw line, with 12 of those coming in the pivotal fourth quarter.

In addition to Schumacher's exploits, Ethan Eilerman put up 16, Bryan Duffy 11, and Bryson Wieland 10. The performance of the night might have come from Holy Cross Junior Nate Niehaus, who drained six 3-Point goals and led all scorers with 24 points.

No other Indian scored double-figures.

The Mustangs improve to 5-2 on the season and await the Highlands Bluebirds, who will be in town for a Freshmen, JV and Varsity triplehader on Friday.

I would say nice win for Brossart, but I’m not sure how good Holy Cross is. Either way, sounds like Brossart played a nice game after the first few minutes. I know they have some tough kids and an intelligent coach. Well done!
