December 10, 20187 yr Author They're all deserving; there are almost 1000 Heisman voters. Most are homers or school affiliated in some form or another. What you deem as important may not be the same as the other voter. The general consensus among the voters that came out publicly before the Championship games is that they were waiting on that weekend to vote. So then it's easy to conclude that Kyler won because he played better on that weekend. Doesn't seem fair though when one team plays the number 4 team with a top 15 defense while the other two play.....well you know It also doesn’t seem fair to say Murray would have also played poorly against Georgia just because Tua did. We don’t know that. Kyler did everything he was asked and then some in every single game. So did Tua except for one game. Did Tua play bad against Georgia? I think most people would say yes. Is there any possible way to say Kyler also would have played poorly? No. There is no way to say Kyler would have performed poorly as well. I choose to focus on what actually happened vs what people think could have happened.
December 10, 20187 yr 40 voters left Tua off their ballot altogether. 27 left Kyler off altogether as well. These people should not vote at all for the Heisman trophy. I'm not in charge of distributing Heisman ballots, but I'd agree with the sentiment of your post. Side-note: I was pleased to see Will Grier finish 4th, every time I watched him play I was more and more impressed. That over-the-shoulder throw to beat Texas was as good a throw as anyone made all year.

There were also some first place votes for Gardner Minshew. Heisman voting is wack. Having a 1000 people vote on this award is crazy. The heisman voters should consist of ~20 people ranging from former coaches and the best experts in the country. I don’t even want former winners to vote because if their school has a guy in the running they are always going to vote for their guy. The whole process is flawed IMO. Submitting ballots before all the games are played? That’s just insane. Personally I think the Heisman shouldn’t even be voted on until after the entire season. The Tua/ Kyler debate will be settled on the field in 3 weeks. Let’s move the Heisman ceremony to after the playoffs.
December 10, 20187 yr To be fair I don’t think JA was talking about anyone on BGP but rather the actual heisman voters. Maybe, but the timing of it in the middle of the argument made it seem like it could have been about 2.
