Honorable Mention

Jill Owens, Rockcastle

 

This is a great honor for the Rockcastle County Lady Rockets volleyball team and especially Jill.

 

She quite possibly is the most talented player that's come out of the Rockcastle County volleyball program. I know there are those out there in the state that think that the volleyball in the mountains isn't that great and for the greater part I will agree BUT having someone from a particular school achieve something like this will only fuel the other players that come through the system to become better and have their name on such a list.

Way to go Rockets! The Tradition continues and you guys added one more! Assumption is KY Volleyball. Congratulations to all the Rockets, and those that made the list above.

Congratulations to the St. Henry players that were also honored. These girls are very deserving of this honor and have represented St. Henry with class and dignity. These seniors (and the others) will be greatly missed.

There were several senior that may recieve votes in NKY... a couple girls from NDA, the softball pitcher from Ryle, Snyder from Beechwood, but the runaway winner would obviously be Stephanie Neimer from SHDHS.

 

She led her (underdog) team to the state championship game, 9th region championship, and district championship, all with an entire team of players that were on the JV roster last year. She was a leader, and was patient with the players developing around her, and proved to be a leader down the stretch.

 

UC is getting a gem of a player and a person with Stephanie.

There were players' of the year in three different classes as voted on by the coaches. Kirsten Allen of Ryle for Div 1, Stephanie Neimer of St. Henry for Div 2 and Lauren Snyder of Beechwood for Div 3. There is no selection of one Miss Volleyball in NKY. If so, it would certainly be one of these three young ladies.

I thought Division I was Andrea Zuckerman of Ryle. All the players are very deserving.

That was my mistake, it was Zuck. Not sure why I listed Kirsten Allen (also a nice player).

I'm no volleyball expert but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that in a sport that fields 6 players at a time, having 7 make all-state is somewhat unusual. No?

Awesome job Jill Owens
