I am genuinely shocked by this turn of events. The Congresswoman just gave her concession speech on KET in the last 10 minutes. She had pulled out so many close wins that I had thought of her as a vampire.

I know that I'm shocked. I said Yarmuth couldn't do it when he won the primary.

 

If Yarmuth can beat Anne Northup, running basically his entire campaign against W, it's good news for the Democrats.

She's no moderate. She's one of the most conservative House members. She did grab headlines a few weeks back when she called for Rummy to resign, as well as bringing some late pork into many largely African-American precincts, but that doesn't change the fact that she's been consistently (95% I believe) voting along the GOP line for 10 years.

I was going by what the NBC people were saying. They said she was a moderate.

I predicted this, but am still saddened by it. Say what you might about Anne Northup, there is no denying that she has been consistently good at bringing home the bacon for the 3rd District. I agree with Ram, if Yarmuth can't get it done for the Ford's, G.E.'s, UPS's, etc. like Anne has, he had better rent and not buy in Washington.

I don't see it. Maybe as a Lt. Gov choice, to try and steal Louisville.

The talk on the Fletcher support scene has died down in the last few months, but I still think he's a dead man walking. I wouldn't be shocked a bit for McConnell to run Anne against Fletcher in the primary.

The majority of party line Republicans I have known absolutely hate her, that would likely put her as more moderate than many. Mind you that doesn't mean a total moderate.

What surprised me was how much Yarmuth led during each precinct reporting period that came in. In year's past, with Mike Ward, and Jack Conway, and others, early in the night it would look like Anne was going down with the West and Southwest precincts reporting in, and then later in the night the Eastern precincts would come in and she would narrow and then pass. Tonight, the gap WIDENED at the end. I would be very curious to know if they reversed the reporting this year, of if the East End finally got worn out on Anne. If so, why? Calling for Rummy's head? Stiffing Cheney?

Sounds to me like those folks probably voted for Pat Buchanan for Prez, and skip right past the "liberal" label and call Bill Clinton a communist.

I was told by my sources the East End precincts came in first, and the West End ones came in last.
