I didn't get to make to these games. Does anyone know how they went?

How did this turn out.

I went down to Bullit Central to see CovCath vs. E-town. Elizabethtown won the first half by 6, CovCath won the second half by 2. A few thoughts.....

 

CovCath has some work to do, but IMO, with the addition of Bovard and Brown after the football team wins state, that will give them a core of 6 players that can consistently compete and NOT turn the ball over (Jacobs, Schult, Bondick, Grimes). After those 6 you have a lot of talent (Roll, Schmerge, Maile, Noll) plagued by mental inconsistencies. Still, those 10 players can rival most top 10's from any program in the state.

 

Stephon Pettigrew was invisible for the first 8 minutes of the game, but then took over. I have never seen a high schooler with his talent have equal hustle and enthusiasm.

 

CovCath struggled mightily against the E-town zones (which, may I add, has been a problem the past few years for CovCath). CCH was up 18-4 when E-town switched to a zone in the first quarter, then had trouble from there on.

 

Jacobs hit a 3-point buzzer beater at the end of the 2nd half. He doesn't miss at the end of games, ever.

 

#10 on E-town is solid as well- tall, athletic, and has a nice shot.

Also, could a South Oldham fan tell me how long Scott Stiles has been playing and/or starting for South? I could have sworn I remember seeing him play two years ago, but maybe it was a different kid.

 

Finally, Jeff Brooks was putting on a highlight reel of dunks in warmups before they played Shelby, but I couldn't stick around. Anyone know who won that game?

Doss outlasted Shelby County and won by 5 points. Doss was led by PG Davin Anderson and of course Jeff Brooks. Anderson appeared to lead Doss in scoring with 18 to 20 points and Brooks led Doss in rebounds. Eugene Wade showed promise today actually pulled a double double. I was really impressed with Isreal Chambers. He seems to be coming along well and his offensive game has become stronger in the paint.

 

Last year's 5th Region champs John Hardin lost to Manual by 11 points. Manual got over 20 points from soph Jacob Jenkins with him nailing some big 3's late in the game. John Hardin has some talent and will be led by Brandon Johnson and Ricky Price, both senior guards.

 

Fairdale was a bit too much to start the game and led South Oldham by 22 point at the half and ended up winning by about 14 points. South Oldham was led by Sean Stiles and Chris Lee. Fairdale was led by Clinton Lucas and Reggie Smith.

How did John Hardin look? Did they press? Do they have any stars?

John Hardin is extremely quick and they are senior oriented. They pressed using a 2-2-1 full court trap and a full court man-to-man. They play very aggressive man defense on half court sets. They use a quick rotating offense where players are constantly cutting to receive quick passes on the perimeter while looking for their big men inside. Tonight, early on the guards were looking for thier shots and from outside the arc. 5'9" PG Ricky Price and 6'1" CG Brandon Johnson like to shoot the 3's. Price is a very solid passer. The leader is Price but they a pair of 6'6" forwards that played above the rim. In my opinion, after watching E-Town play Covington Catholic and watching John Hardin play Manual, John Hardin has the athletes and depth to win the 5th Region. I guess this bolds well for 7th Region Manual and how well they played.

Lincoln County scrimmaged Madison Southern at Tates Creek on Saturday the 18th. They reset the score after each quarter, the best I could keep track I think Lincoln won something like 95-33. This is scary considering they did not have Miller, Calhoun or Young due to football just getting over with. Should be a much better test this Saturday at Rupp against June Buchanan.

Yes, that is. They also reset the scores in the McCreary/Monroe game and therefore I just kept the score from each quarter myself. What is the point of clearing the score after each quarter?

Lee County scrimmaged Magoffin County at Wolfe Co on Nov. 22.

 

Lee won all 4 of the 10 minute quarters with a combined winning score of about 60 to 29. Lee's JV also won a 'running 20 minute clock' round pretty easily. Lee's overall quickness has improved from last season and their scoring was balanced. Several players are able to play multiple positions. 6'6" sophomore center Jared Pelfrey is out for a couple of weeks and didn't play. Pelfrey may add another dimension to Lee's game by adding some size and depth.

 

Magoffin had decent size and Devin Rice was pretty impressive. Early in the game Rice went up for a two-handed stuff but Lee Co's Caleb Fetters (who is also a high flyer) came from behind for an 'above the rim block' but then fouled Rice before they came back down.
