Powell County is set to play West Carter this Friday night in Stanton for the Pirates home opener. West Carter defeated Powell County 41-39 in a thriller last year.

Pirates coming off a big road win @ Garrard County, can they make it 2 wins in a row or will the Comets, once again, upend the Pirates?

This is a sneaky good, under the radar game this week in 3A. Powell returns a lot from last year's regional runner-up, and I have a feeling West Carter could turn some heads this season. Give me the Comets by two scores.

West Carter gave up almost 500 yards rushing in this game last year and still won. West Carter is much improved from last year even though they are a super young team. I expect another shootout.

West Carter 42

Powell 35

I will give Powell credit, they aren't afraid to keep it in the class.

All but one of their non-district games are against 3A teams. They also have an improved Bath County and solid Lawrence County coming up before entering District play.

The only Non-3A team they face is 4A West Carter in their final regular season game. Let's be honest, most of us (myself included) probably thought they were 3A for a second as well.

East Carter but they are 3A next year and should be 3A now. They got the shaft on the last realignment as the last team in 4A I believe.
