August 8, 20188 yr As we get ready to go back to school what do you think makes a good HS teacher. And I guess a bad one.
August 8, 20188 yr A school system that allows the teacher to teach and help the students learn and doesnt hinder that process.
August 8, 20188 yr A good teacher sets high goals for his/her students and pushes them to reach them. My best 2 teachers when I was young were tough. Their expectations were clear and I worked my tail off to pass. They were also available to help after school, if needed. I hated those classes at the time, but over the years realize how much I learned and appreciated them.
August 8, 20188 yr In my experiences, the best teachers had these skills, traits, whatever you call it: 1) cared about the students 2) had high expectation for students (content, behavior and production) 3) was not bound to a clock Sounds simple and with common sense. Sometimes one of these may be lacking.
August 8, 20188 yr Just this old geezer's thoughts: 1). A true passion to teach. 2). One that gets great joy from seeing their students learn. 3). One that fines ways to motivate their students to exceed their own abilities and expectations. 4). One that is daily able to look forward to today's teaching opportunities.
August 9, 20188 yr The older I get the more I want from my kid’s teacher.... is to truly truly care about them. HS can be such a tough time. Give each student as much love, support and confidence that you can. After that...., teach my child to think creatively, broadly, and to consider the big picture. Finally, teach them how to write well and collaborate well with others. Then focus on the subject/content area – lol.
August 9, 20188 yr Author I think a good teacher does this. Makes class fun Can relate to today's kids Is humble Likes what they do Not to serious, Can joke Don't try to push their beliefs on kids Values every opinion Knows every kid isn't blessed like others with parents or money Has discipline
