X may contend again next year. Strong 19 class.

Coach Baioni has taken HHS from a rec league mentality to a top tier KY program.

HHS a Baseball school now?

As you say, and with all do respect, it is about the "flukiness of the game". If the problem is really about big schools vs. small schools, then address that issue alone. Adding games won't solve the issue(s). FYI, it is kinda about liking the results. When you win, the playoff system is just fine. When you don't, then things could be done to improve the system. IMO, things are just fine the way they are. Maybe, just maybe, the small school vs. the big school issue should be addressed to even things out "competition wise".

You keep referring to "liking the results", and that the subject of best two out of 3 is only coming up because people have an issue with the result. I don't think I've heard anyone complain about this year's result, nor have a heard anyone really ever complain about the results over the last several years. Where in this thread has anyone complained about X winning or Highland's getting a raw deal? 2 out 3 only comes up in baseball because it's unique amongst the other team sports in that under the current single game format, teams that aren't so good, but have one hammer on the mound, can beat better, deeper teams. More often in baseball, than any other sport, the best team often doesn't win. By going to two of three, the better, deeper team will win more often. Because of that, the larger schools will have even more of an advantage than they already have.

I'm personally fine with the current single elimination format, though I wouldn't be against the finals being best two out of three. I don't think 2 out 3 will ever happen, and I don't know that it needs to happen. I'd rather see classification before best 2 out 3.

Absotively.

As a supporter of a team that has played more games in Whitaker Bank Ballpark over the last 4 years than any other (I'm pretty sure I'm right on that - me & the Mrs. did the math on one of the many trips to Lex from NKy), the "best" team in baseball is not necessarily determined by a format where 1 loss in 3 games over 4ish days in the Regional tourney or in 4 games over 2 weekends in the state tournament (much less a loss in the 1st District Game where it either isn't seeded OR an average team who just happens to have a HAMMER). (That said, if you'd predicted St. X v. HHS at the beginning of the season, nobody would've laughed at you.)

The new state format of 2 weekends (where you really only need 2 starters and an arm or 2 in the bullpen) seems to generate results more in line with expectations.

Look at College Baseball: Regionals = double elimination; Supers = 2/3; CWS = double elimination and then 2/3 for the 8 that make it there.

Look at MLB - wild card "play in" game; best of 5; best of 7; best of 7

That said, there is a practical side of things. HS baseball runs too long as it is and anything beyond single elimination would be a logistical nightmare. Not sure any team's #4 starter v. another team's #4 starter for a state championship is a great idea.

Absolutely Yes!
