What Do You Call This Wedding Tradition?

I was at a wedding last night sitting with some folks from central and eastern KY. I heard one say something to the other about songs for the "daddy daughter dance" referring to the bride dancing with her father. I had never heard that term before as I've always heard it called the "father daughter dance."

Is that a regional term?

Isn’t that the same thing? Some people say daddy and some people say father. I have heard it both ways.

With weddings, I've typically heard "Father/daughter dance". Daddy/daughter is more of a term for when you're talking about like elementary school years, when there are special daddy/daughter days or dances, things like that.

That could be regional as well. I've never heard "daddy daughter" in NKY.

Now that I think about it, I agree with dragonfire, I’ve always heard the actual dance at a wedding as a “father daughter dance.” I’ve seen actual events called “daddy daughter dances” and they tend to be for younger girls and their dad. NKU has hosted many daddy daughter dances at their student center for different organizations.
