Winter looks to return next week

Featured Replies

Winter looks to return to parts of Kentucky early next week. While we are a little less than a week away wintry precipitation could occur starting on Tuesday and end Tuesday evening or early Wednesday morning. For now, the possible accumulations look to be light with the heaviest accumulations in the Cincinnati/NKY and southeast Kentucky areas. I will be keeping an eye on the situation and post updates when information warrants it.

This shows the possible accumulations but remember this is not an official forecast just for information purposes.

Quick update. The latest GFS model is showing a possibility of snow Tuesday through Wednesday that maybe a little more widespread and accumulation totals being a bit higher than first thought. Still too early to predict any accumulation totals. I will post a more detailed outlook later today.

Here is the very latest from the GFS model. Precipitation should start off as rain then switch over to snow as the temps fall. The time period for these maps is from 8 pm EDT Tuesday night till 8 am EDT Thursday morning. At this time it seems that the possible snow will be from around the I-65 corridor eastward. I'm going to wait for a day or so before I start posting anything on snowfall accumulations.

This is the temperature for the same time period.

I've been concentrating on the possible severe weather for Monday but I haven't forgotten about this possible event. I will post an update later. If the trend of the NAM keeps going well I'll say later. Some may be saying. :ohbrother::isurrender:

Ok here's the outlook for the possible winter precipitation early next week. We are now in the range of the NAM model. It is showing a possible freezing rain event from Central Indiana through Central Ohio. If these areas receive what the NAM is showing there will be widespread power outages and very difficult traveling conditions on Tuesday. Parts of Eastern Indiana and Western Ohio could be the hardest hit. For now, .5 to 1.06" of freezing rain accumulations will be possible. So everyone can see on the map if this comes true and the storm takes a more southerly track, parts of Kentucky will be in its path.

For Kentucky, rain showers will move through on Tuesday. Wrap around moisture will move back in late Tuesday evening or early Wednesday morning as snow. This possible snow will continue off and on through Wednesday evening. Maybe be more continuous in parts of Northern and North East Kentucky.

Here is what the NAM is showing for possible accumulations through Wednesday evening.

As everyone can see the track of this system will be very important. I will update early tomorrow morning. We will have some interesting weather next week.

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for parts of Kentucky from Tuesday evening until during the day on Wednesday. For now mainly 1-3 inches north of a line from around Elizabethtown through Richmond. South of that line 1-2 inches. The snow for now looks like east of a line due south from Owensboro to the

Tenessee border is where the heaviest accumulations will be. West of that line from a dusting to around 1/2 inch. There appear some pockets of around 4 inches possible north of Lexington, east of Lousiville and south of Cincinnati. Also in Southeast Kentucky.

This system looks like it may be for parts of Kentucky from Louisville to the Cincinnati/NKY a close replay of the snow from last Monday that fell in the central and bluegrass areas. As soon as I can after work I will post an detailed up date. People in those areas should head to the store for milk and bread this afternoon! :D

Need to travel to Lexington Wednesday around noon for Dr. Appointment...what am I going to be looking at?
