BluegrassPreps.com 9th Region Weekly Rankings (01/29/2018)

I would think some of the bottom feeders on this list would be starting to think about making coaching changes for next year. If not maybe they ought to be.

I think you are mistaken that they will start thinking about coaching changes. Schools rarely fire coaches for on the court performance anymore. If they did, there would have been several openings over the past ten years. Think about the last two seasons.

Dixie - Chevalier retired

Lloyd - Key took principal position

Scott - (10th region but NKY) Carr, forced to resign for off the court issues

Conner - Hicks promoted to athletic director

NCC - Dawn retired...again

4 Team Analysis from 2013-2014

Team A - 61-78 (1 Region Appearance)

Team B - 51-84 (2 Region Appearances)

Team C - 46-77 (1 Region Appearance)

Team D - 64-69 (0 Region Appearances)

One might argue all 4 teams have been in need of a change.

Your points are valid and I really agree with most of what you have said. Unfortunately the school I'm familiar with could stand to shake things up just as they did in their girls program. Program isn't going anywhere under its current direction. Just my opinion.

Ummm, Newport lost to a very bad Holmes team. The Wildcats also got blown off the floor by Collins and Mayfield in consecutive days, not a good look, and then barely beat a bad Apollo team in overtime. No one is saying Boone is great, but at full strength as they proved against Cooper, they are the No. 3 team in the region. I like Newport's talent, but talent does not always mean a better team. They beat Boone a while back and that is to their credit.

Collins is a top team in the 8th Region, and this game was not a blowout. Close most of the game, according to people i talked to. Mayfield is a top 20 team in the state, and this also was not a blow out. 10-14 point games are a matter of a few possessions. "Blown off the floor" makes it seem like these were 20+ point losses. Not the case.

In the case of Boone, they are sneaky good. I like them. They certainly have some bad losses, just like the Holmes loss for Newport. That said, Boone beat Cooper in Double OT at home, and Newport beat LexCath on a neutral floor.

Newport also has inserted a Sophomore into the starting line-up and he has added quite a bit to the team, since the Boone game, and since the holiday tournament in Owensboro.

Boone and Newport are arguable as for the 3rd team in the region. CCH/ Cooper are 1 and 2.

I agree with the previous post about schools firing coaches based on performance. It does seem to be rare. Why is that though? Is it because most/all those coaches are members of the school staff (teachers, etc.)?

I think that there are some cases where if a math or science teacher are in a coaching position it would be hard to fire them as a coach because you fear losing them as a teacher. There are other scenarios too.

Here is one, and I don't think this coach should be fired or even considered for replacement so I won't name the school.

Coach is an assistant principal at a school where high expectations for their basketball team have been in place. Team has been expected to win the region on several occasions but have had trouble even winning their district as of late. This coach will not only not be let go ever but they will pick their replacement from their staff.

Anyone who saw the Cooper and Newport game tonight can now understand why Boone County is clearly ahead of Newport in the ratings. Not even a debate I would guess after tonight.

That Newport hasn’t really had any losses that you can bring up besides beechwood but one of their starters and big contributors didn’t play. When Newport has everybody playing they are tough to beat and a better team than Boone from top to bottom.

Hard to say that after last night's beating from Cooper. Boone clearly better at this point.

Ryle beats Boone tonight! Hmmmm

Clearly better I guess

Latest happening, Ryle beats Boone.

Woww. I’m sure there will be excuses for the loss. But, that said, I know Boone is good. Also know Newport is good. CCH/Cooper 1 & 2. 3-5 is Newport, Boone, NCC in whatever order.

Also, NewCath beat Scott tonight. Excellent win for them.
